It's been a privilege for Rūta Teterovska and Gareth Bolitho to attend Phage Futures and Microbiome Connect in Boston this week! 🌎 These events have highlighted the exciting and vital work that is being done to advance Phage and microbial treatments to improve health and combat the global, holistic threat of AMR. It's been amazing to meet with existing and future CellMaker users, reaffirming the important role that the CellMaker is playing in making these dreams a reality. Thank you to Kiasco Research for hosting these events - and to the inspirational researchers working to shape a better future for us all. 🙌 #PhageFutures #MicrobiomeConnect #AMR #CellMaker

https://lnkd.in/eydfb8zT Another week and another great paper showing how important Bacteriophages (#phage) will be in treating diseases, this time in poultry farms. The addition of phage into the cleaning regimen led to a significant decrease in the occurrence of Salmonella Infantis which is a particularly persistent, difficult to remove, pathogen. This presents a great opportunity to reduce the risk of transmission into the food chain and propagation of antimicrobial resistance (#AMR). Congratulations to the teams at the CECAV and I2SysBio in Valencia, keep up the great work!

Great work pushing forward the understanding of this important family of phages and hopefully advancing us to a cure for cystic fibrosis infections and much more beyond! Kudos to the teams involved in this work and to all the brilliant phage scientists working hard to combat antimicrobial resistant infections - keep up the great work! https://lnkd.in/d3PjwgnH

Highlights the important issues that society is facing with AMR and antibiotic resistance. Bring on the PHAGE!
This week, following a paper from The Lancet that assesses the global burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), CNN reported on phage therapy as a promising alternative to antibiotics. The urgent need for alternative therapies was highlighted by Dr. Steffanie Strathdee who very nearly lost her husband, Tom Patterson when he became infected with Acinetobacter baumannii during a trip to Egypt. This bacterium is resistant to nearly all antibiotics and Tom recovered only after receiving treatment with a bacteriophage which selectively targeted and killed the infection. Dr. Strathdee, a professor at UC San Diego and co-director of the Centre for Innovative Phage Applications and Therapeutics, emphasised that, “The most important alternative to antibiotics is phage therapy, and that’s what saved my husband’s life.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eMDq-ars

Anaerobic bacterial fermentation is simple with the CellMaker bioreactor! ✅ The CellMaker range of innovative, single-use airlift bioreactor systems simplifies, accelerates, and improves cell culture and fermentation processes. These systems are expertly designed for the life sciences and biopharmaceutical industries. Our patented airlift technology eliminates the need for mechanical mixing by using bubbles to move cells and nutrients, providing homogeneous mixing for rapid cell growth. The process is easy to set up and operates smoothly with minimal user interaction! With automatic monitoring and control of gases supplied, active pH control for acid-producing bacteria, and automated antifoam dosing with Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions controlled by the bioreactor. To learn more about anaerobic fermentation with our CellMaker, speak to Rūta Teterovska or Anna Cornfield.
