📣 Participants needed!! Are you an EU national living and working in Northern Ireland? We'd love to hear from you! The MES-AIE "Migrant and Employer Strategies post Brexit in an all-island economy" project looks at the experiences of European citizens in Northern Ireland after Brexit (Here is the link to the project https://lnkd.in/eTyRhu_M ) We are particularly interested in hearing from people who arrived in the last 4-5 years, after the EU Settlement Scheme had already closed, and who therefore had to apply for a visa, but we’re also interested in the experiences of people who have been here for a longer time. We particularly welcome people who work in these sectors: 🏥 Healthcare 🏭 Manufacturing 🛏️ Hospitality 💻 IT or financial services. The interviews will last no more than half an hour and will be entirely anonymous and confidential. Trade and tourism This year's Sir George Quigley Annual Memorial Lecture will discuss trade and tourism. Join us on Thursday 12 December from 12pm in Armagh as we find out about "Expanding the horizons of trade and tourism on the island of Ireland". We're looking forward to hearing from Margaret Hearty (Chief Executive at InterTradeIreland), Alice Mansergh (Chief Executive at Tourism Ireland) and Economist Maureen O'Reilly (Senior Research Associate at the CCBC). Cross-border trade is at an all-time high of €12 billion/£10 billion (a). In 2019, visitors' expenditure was €4,874 million in the Republic of Ireland and €672 million in Northern Ireland (b). Last Tuesday evening I travelled down to Enniskillen to deliver a training session on using NISRA data to build a community profile. We looked at NISRA's Census Area Explorer tool, the new NI Local Statistics Explorer tool and some of the datasets on the NISRA data portal including the NI Multiple Deprivation Measure. This was a practical session (as you can see from the photo). It was a great group of staff and volunteers from a diverse range of organisations who you could see were passionate about their work. Thanks to Yvonne Corbett Rural Community Network for the invite and to Sonya Fermanaghtrust for organising the session as part of their Investing in Community Leadership programme.

We are leading the charge in the fight against lung cancer, thanks to a new cross-border project aimed at establishing screening programmes across the island of Ireland. The LUNG SHOT project will bring leading experts and key stakeholders in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland together to collaborate on tackling the disease. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Northern Ireland and the third most common cancer in the Republic of Ireland. Despite growing evidence that early detection through screening can significantly reduce mortality, neither region have yet funded a formal lung cancer screening programme. This will make the new programmes the first of their kind on the island of Ireland. “This project is incredibly significant as it will enable us to link with patient advocacy groups and community partnerships to ensure that the screening programmes are tailored to local needs, while benefiting from international expertise and best practices. “The findings will provide vital insights into how lung cancer screening can be integrated into existing healthcare systems, with the potential to save lives by detecting cancer earlier, when treatment is more effective.” (Dr Ethna McFerran, lead investigator from the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences).
