Neuromodulation - one of LSI's markets to watch in 2025! I totally agree with the factors driving growth in this area: 🔬evolving science ✨non-invasive technologies 🙋♀️personalised medicine 💰healthcare cost pressures 💊desire to reduce chronic pharmaceutical usage Interestingly the estimated CAGR quoted here (4.9%) is significantly lower than figures I've seen elsewhere, which are mostly in the range 7-14%. It also makes no mention of the rapidly growing areas of BCI and hypoglossal stimulation for sleep apnoea, limiting its analysis to the "traditional" markets of SCS, DBS, SNS, VNS and rTMS. I guess this shows that the definitions of terms like #neuromodulation, #neurotechnology and #bci are not universal and still being debated!

Cambridge NeuroWorks kicked off yesterday in a big way, and not just the bigger venue they had to move to! 100+ experts working in the neurotechnology space from across industry, academia and medicine, came together for the launch of Cambridge NeuroWorks - A radical programme funding high-risk, high potential projects developing the next generation of neuro-technologies for the treatment of neurological and mental health disorders. This is being underpinned by the UK Government's Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and they are offering funding to people with big ideas in the space to treat conditions such as depression, dementia, chronic pain, epilepsy and injuries to the nervous system. With funding opportunities of up to £500k per project, it's a great opportunity for those with impactful ideas to apply. https://lnkd.in/e-yqSRQn A few key take away's for me (and the very real need for new technologies) were; - The cost of dementia care globally is $2.4 trillion and will continue to increase - 80% of the population will be effected by neurological and mental health disorders at some point in their life - Big ideas can start to take shape with new fantastic tools such as CRATE - Clinical Records Anonymisation and Test Extraction; software to give researchers more patient information in an anonymised way. Thanks to all those that have got Cambridge NeuroWorks off the ground including Ben Underwood, George Malliaras, Jacques Carolan, Cathy Tralau-Stewart and John Gourd, plus ARIA for supporting the programme!

It's strange that product liability / the Consumer Protection Act seems to have been overlooked in the neurotech space, as all neurotechnology will constitute "products" within the meaning of the CPA. Anyway, to all: I would welcome thoughts and critical feedback on my tentative suggestions. They are put forward very much as a springboard for discussion, refinement and betterment. There's a real opportunity with the Product Safety and Metrology Bill 2024 to get this right. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Neuroscience, Law, Psychology, and Beyond Conference Series IV, hosted by Kadir Has University. This exceptional event highlighted the profound importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in advancing our understanding of the dynamic relationships between law, neuroscience, and psychology. It was particularly meaningful to reconnect with Dr. Allan McCay with whom I had the privilege of collaborating as a student assistant during a symposium two years ago. His innovative work continues to inspire and challenge conventional thinking in these fields. I also wish to extend my sincere gratitude to Professor Ozan Erözden under whose mentorship I worked as a student assistant for three years. His unwavering guidance and expertise have had a lasting impact on my academic journey and intellectual development. Being part of such a vibrant and forward-thinking academic community is a privilege I do not take for granted. Events like this serve as a powerful reminder of the value of collaboration, curiosity, and shared knowledge in addressing complex global challenges.
