At the ChargeUK autumn reception in Westminster new minister for the future of roads, Lilian Greenwood MP, promised to “support the EV industry not simply to grow but to thrive.” She told ChargeUK members, “Your industry is already committed to billions of pounds in charging infrastructure investment by 2030 and that’s a huge step. And this government will back you all the way.” The minister confirmed that the government intends to move the end date for the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles to 2030. She said, “In 2030 there will be no new cars relying solely on internal combustion engines. That end date not only gives the industry the clarity it needs but also gives consumers the certainty they deserve.” The minister also echoed ChargeUK calls to go ‘further and faster’ in the roll out of EV charge points and recognised ChargeUK members' work to provide ‘a reliable, accessible and affordable EV charging network’. She said, “We must double down on charging up. We must think about the needs of people without off street parking, we must think about fast tracking the release of funding to local communities to roll out a reliable network of public charge points. Your role at ChargeUK is an important one.” The members also heard from ChargeUK chair Chris Pateman-Jones and ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read. Vicky noted that charging provision is in “a good place today and we are on track for tomorrow." Drawing on ChargeUK's recent 'Powering Ahead to 2030' White Paper she explained that there are 930,000 charge points in the UK today – home, work and public - supporting 1.1 million BEVs, close to one charger for every EV on the road today. On average, one public charge point is installed every 25 minutes. She highlighted the conditions the sector needs to stay on track. “To keep investing billions ahead of demand we need to know there will be a thriving EV market. We need certainty about the number of EVs coming onto our road – these are our customers” She also highlighted areas in which the government can support the industry and maximise the impact of public and private investment. She said, “The main LEVI fund, three years after it was announced, has only just produced its first few tenders – without tenders, CPOs cannot build the on-street charging we know is desperately needed.” And she called for action on grid connections, planning and permits to speed up deployment. She said, “The standing charges we pay have risen by up to 1000%, which is having a damaging effect on affordability and investment." The Westminster reception was attended by ChargeUK members, influencers and stakeholders from across industry, parliament and Whitehall. ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read told the audience, “Drivers need to hear loudly and clearly from everyone in the ecosystem that the charging is there, that gaps are being filled, and that convenient and affordable provision is coming thick and fast." #evcharging #electricvehicles #transport #politics

ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read spoke on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme this morning – emphasising that the upcoming consultation must provide clarity. A significant day for the EV charging sector, with the next phase of the Public Charge Point Regulations coming into force today. The regulations will provide consumers with further confidence in the network, with new requirements on 24/7 help lines, contactless payment, reliability and open data, echoing the industry’s commitment to continuously improve consumer experience of charging. With over 71,000 public charge points in the UK and a new charge point installed every 25 minutes, ChargeUK’s members are ensuring EV charging is as affordable and convenient as possible. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV

Yesterday, ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read made the case for the ZEV mandate, to the government, on the airwaves and in print. ChargeUK members are putting a new charge point in the ground every 25 minutes on average and are committed to invest over £6 billion up to 2030. That progress was acknowledged by government yesterday and everyone agreed that uncertainty is the enemy of the EV transition and threatens investment on all sides. ChargeUK is looking forward to working closely with government and industry to continue to make the case to retain what we already have – a strong ZEV mandate that works. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EVs

ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read was interviewed on Sky News today ahead of a key meeting between government and industry. Vicky talked about the commitment of ChargeUK’s members to invest £6 billion by 2030. Though to protect this investment and ensure charging provision stays ahead of demand, we need the Government to stick to its pledges to maintain confidence in the sector. With a new charge point installed every 25 minutes and over 71,000 public charge points throughout the UK, ChargeUK is doing all it can to make the transition to electric vehicles as convenient and affordable as possible. ChargeUK, with Auto Trader UK and Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), have launched a new initiative to combat misinformation surrounding EVs and EV charging. These new user-friendly facts are endorsed by the Department for Transport and offer a more balanced and data-backed view of the reality of owning and driving electric cars. With the average range of a new EV standing at 236 miles and with now over 70,000 public charge points across the UK, drivers are finding it even more convenient to charge on long journeys. This new initiative is part of ChargeUK’s long standing campaign to fight the myths still held about EVs and EV charging, with the launch of its White Paper “Powering Ahead to 2030”in the summer. https://lnkd.in/ePUK4uBb The information from the new initiative is available for consumers here: https://lnkd.in/eGepDu3G #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EVs

Great to see an increase in more affordable Electric Vehicles for drivers The transition to a greener transport future requires two things: the availability of EVs that drivers want and are able to afford, and the availability of affordable and convenient charging. With more than 125 different BEV models for drivers to choose from at increasingly affordable prices, a strong ZEV mandate is doing what it was set up for. The mandate and subsequent rise in sales of new and second hand EVs will also give ChargeUK’s members confidence to invest £6 billion in public charging by 2030 – ensuring the infrastructure is in place for drivers to make the switch. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EVs https://lnkd.in/ggvqXcQb

This news from Be.EV shows yet again how ChargeUK members are focussed on ensuring EV drivers have access to the right charging solution in the right place. Just as recent stats have shown the number of new and used EVs being sold is going up, our members are working hard to ensure the infrastructure roll out stays ahead of demand. #evcharging #EVs #electricvehicles #infrastructure #EVinfrastructure
Another day, another great Northern partnership 💚 Plugging back into our roots, we’ve continued our EV charging rollout alongside JW Lees Brewery – the family-owned pub chain. Together, we’re rolling out 22 ultra-rapid bays, across seven locations (with two still to power up) in a deal worth up to £1.8M – all set to serve the 12,500 local EV drivers and countless visitors across all these pubs. EV drivers don’t just want charging – they want it at places they’ll actually spend time. And more venues are catching on. Through this regional partnership, we’re building a model for hospitality brands to meet the growing demand for EV-friendly venues. By upgrading existing charging, and installing new ultra-rapid solutions, we are creating long-term, diversified revenue streams for J.W. Lees, boosting land value across their portfolio, and attracting more visitors to their locations. Here’s to another Northern success story!
