I used to think screens were harmless—until I learned the real impact on our eyes. Like so many of us, I spend hours each day on screens, and have done most of my life, thinking little of it beyond the occasional eye strain. But when I discovered the long-term effects—especially for children—I was shocked. Our visual system wasn’t built for this digital world, and it turns out the impact goes beyond just tired eyes. In this week’s podcast, I sit down with Dr Bryce Appelbaum and explore the hidden effects of screen time on our vision as well as what we can do to protect our eyes. If you’re like me, always on a screen, tune in to this episode to learn simple, effective steps to protect your vision and adapt in a healthier way. 🌍 World Mental Health Day: Empowering High-Achieving Students to Thrive! Today, on World Mental Health Day, I want to shine a light on a topic close to my heart: student wellness and the importance of self-care in preventing burnout. As shared in my University of Essex TEDx talk yesterday, “Prevent Student Burnout with Self-Care to Fuel Success,” journey through education isn’t just about academic achievements; it’s also about nurturing our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. When I was a law student, I received an excellent education but lacked the tools to manage my well-being effectively. I learned the hard way that success without health isn’t sustainable. 🚀 My mission is to equip the next generation of students and young professionals with the strategies they need to stay on top of their game—without sacrificing their health. 👩🏻🎓 👨🎓Here are a few tips to help prevent Student burnout: • Prioritize Self-Care: Make time for activities that recharge you, whether it’s exercise, reading, eating nutritious meal, optimising sleeping habits, or simply taking a walk. • Stay Connected: Build a support network of friends, family, or mentors who understand and uplift you. • Mindfulness Matters: Practice being present. Techniques like meditation or deep-breathing exercises can reduce stress. • Seek professional Help When Needed: There’s strength in recognizing when you need support. Reach out to mental health professionals. 🧠Let’s use this day as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health. Together, we can create a culture where success and well-being go hand in hand. Join me in this mission. Share your own tips or experiences, and let’s support each other in building a healthier future for all students. Stay well and keep thriving! #health #wellbeing #WorldMentalHealthDay #StudentWellness #BurnoutPrevention #SelfCare #MentalHealthMatters #HighPerformance #AcademicBurnout #StudentWellness #LegalMinds #FutureLeaders #WellnessJourney #StudentStruggles #MentalHealthAwareness #BurnoutBlues #StudyGrind #Selfcare #StressManagement #studentburnout
