Last night, cabinet voted for a prolonged closure of the Swindon Road household recycling centre, to assess its long term future. The last day the site will be open to customers will be 10 January. We know our residents have lots of questions around this. In this new short video, Cllr Izaac Tailford answers some of them, including reasons for closure, how long it may take and what happens next. We’re updating our online frequently asked questions all the time: https://lnkd.in/eB_uEFyw ♻️ Find the full cabinet report and watch the full cabinet meeting by visiting the links in the comments ⬇️ #Recycling #Waste #Kerbside #LocalGov #Cheltenham Rowena Hay Peter Jeffries Izaac Tailford Gareth Edmundson Paul Jones FCPFA Claire Hughes Beth Cordingley PC.foi Joanne Crowell Beth Boughton South West Councils Mark Owen

Gloucestershire Community Foundation (GCF) are encouraging people, organisations and businesses across #Gloucestershire to get behind the fight against #poverty this winter. GCF do an incredible amount to support our county and we are very grateful for all they do. Recently, our leader Rowena Hay was delighted to accept an invitation from GCF chief executive, Talitha Nelson MBA, to join their annual celebration event. In the last two years, GCF has delivered over £180,000 in grants, supporting more than 34,000 local people. We think this is incredible and we are very grateful for all they do 💙 . But the fight against poverty is still real. Could you, your business or organisation get behind their Poverty Hurts Appeal? See more in the comments below. 🔽 #Poverty #Appeal #Fundraising #Charity #Cheltenham #Gloucestershire #Community #Winter

Last week the council chamber was a buzz with energy as we hosted 14 local schools for a mock COP29 climate conference with InterClimate Network and the Cheltenham Education Partnership🌍 The students represented countries attending COP29 and took on the role of advocating for their countries climate priorities. They asked insightful and thought-provoking questions to a panel of professionals and passionately discussed local action ideas for their schools and communities. The students' hard work was inspiring and their passion and enthusiasm infectious! Watch our video below to see the students reflect on the mock COP29 conference and emphasise the importance of valuing our young people in the climate effort. The message couldn't be clearer, 'listen to kids'! 📣 #COP29 #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #Cheltenham InterClimate Network Iain Dobie Louise Forey Maizy McCann Raechel Kelly Kenny Lynch Benefact Group

This morning we welcomed students from 14 schools into the council chamber, the centre of local decision making, to take part in a mock COP29 conference with the InterClimate Network and the Cheltenham Education Partnership🌍 As representatives of a diverse mix of developing, emerging and developed countries attending COP29, the debate began with students discussing climate issues and agreeing resolutions on key themes. In a conference debate that mirrors the UN negotiations, they put forward policy positions using carefully chosen arguments in order to reach consensus. It was fantastic to see the students communicate their points so eloquently and passionately, and we look forward to seeing how the conference progresses into the afternoon. #ClimateAction #cop29baku #COP29Azerbaijan

Due to new legislation and enhanced kerbside collection services, a review of Cheltenham’s waste and recycling services will take place. The Swindon Road household recycling centre (HRC) will therefore undergo a prolonged closure – if agreed by cabinet - from 10 January 2025 whilst a full review of options takes place. Cabinet members will meet on 26 November to agree to the prolonged closure and discuss the future of the site, taking into account the £1million investment required to keep the site open. The closure provides the opportunity to thoroughly consider the future of the site - which is currently fully compliant - in line with new regulations, best value for the taxpayer, changing needs of residents and improvements to kerbside recycling. During this time, residents can continue to recycle a huge variety of materials at the kerbside or at ‘bring bank’ sites. Bookable slots continue to be available at Wingmoor Farm, the county council site, and residents can organise a bulky waste collection via the council website♻️ If you have any questions, please visit the FAQ page on our website: https://lnkd.in/eB_uEFyw Read the full story and find the link to the cabinet report below⬇️ #Recycling #Waste #RecyclingCentre #Kerbside #LocalGov #Cheltenham #Environment Rowena Hay Peter Jeffries Izaac Tailford Gareth Edmundson Paul Jones FCPFA Claire Hughes Joanne Crowell Beth Boughton South West Councils Mark Owen
