About us

It was in September 1986 that six businessmen – a solicitor, a newspaper editor, a building society manager, an hotelier, a butcher and a public relations consultant – met over a convivial lunch at the Abbots Well (now the Mercure Chester East) Hotel. A germ of an idea developed to set up some kind of new ‘business’ organisation – but different from the existing ones where, for example, accountants, hoteliers, solicitors, estate agents, bankers and the like joined their respective ‘institution’ associations and, in the main, did little to promote ‘Chester’ beyond their organisations’ own terms of reference. The six Founder Members of what became the Chester Business Club wanted to create a new business grouping that business people wanted to belong to rather than the one they felt obligated to join. One of the principal activities over the years have been the Speaker Dinners. The principal aim of these events is to provide an impartial forum for leading commentators – from Business, Politics, Media, The Arts and Public Life ~ to speak on a topic of their own choosing, as a positive contribution to increasing public awareness of the important issues of the day. And as the Club has also built up a reputation for providing speakers with a happy and welcoming bunch of people as an audience, they tend be socially agreeable occasions too! In addition to the Speaker Dinners, CBC also arranges a number of business engagement and ‘social’ activities (e.g., Drinks Receptions), Charity fundraisers (e.g., an annual Charity Walk and annual Charity Ball), informal dinners and networking events (e.g., Member evenings at local businesses’ offices). Membership, by invitation, of the Club is available to Directors, Proprietors, Partners, Senior Employees of businesses in the City of Chester area and others of similar standing. Please see our website for more information.

The Cat with Confidence - Giving you the Confidence to Conquer | Inspirational Speaker | Author | Clinical Hypnotherapist   ➡️ How To  “B.R.E.A.K. the Invisible Cage” is my new book coming soon!

Has something ever gone wrong for you that ended up being right? I’m in Kenya today, and here’s the story about how I came to be here. Let me take you back to the Autumn of 1996. I was 18 years old, working hard to save for a gap year of traveling before heading off to university. I had secured a place to teach English as a foreign language in Budapest, Hungary, and everything was set. But just three weeks before I was due to leave, the phone rang. A voice on the other end said: “I’m sorry, Catherine, but the school you are placed with does not have availability anymore. You cannot come, and we don’t have any other alternatives at this time.” I was devastated. All the planning, hard work, and saving seemed to have been for nothing. But my life was about to change in a way I couldn’t have imagined. My mum said something that stuck with me: “Allow yourself three days to wallow and be sad, and then pick yourself up and find a Plan B.” I don’t even remember exactly how I stumbled across this particular Plan B, but a few weeks later, I found myself in the small town of Devizes, Wiltshire, interviewing for a place with Africa Venture to travel to Kenya and teach in a school there. That experience changed my life. They say that once you’ve been to Kenya, a piece of it stays in your heart and soul forever. And so, yesterday, 28 years later, with a son now 18 and a daughter 15, that piece of my heart came home. 💫 My teenage self is overwhelmed to be back, and I’m deeply grateful that, at 46, I can now afford something I couldn’t back then: to share this dream experience with my family and to experience a dream come true. 🎈Today we soared in a hot air balloon across Amboseli National Park at sunrise, with the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro as our backdrop. If that teenage moment of “disaster” hadn’t happened in 1996 - if my original plans hadn’t fallen apart - I doubt I’d be having this experience today. Sometimes, the greatest opportunities come disguised as setbacks. So let me ask you: ❓When has something gone wrong for you, only to lead you somewhere extraordinary? I’d love to hear your story.

Freelance Business Development/Fundraising Consultant / Executive Council Member - Chester Business Club / Merseyside Youth Association / SHARE / Cavendish High Academy / CRADLE

I am finishing this week with a huge smile on my face ❤️ This is why ☺️ - I received amazing news that my client, an SEN school in Runcorn has been awarded a Minibus following a grant application I wrote and submitted - Officially formed a corporate partnership with a local business to support the school with volunteering and fundraising - Finalised plans for The Legends Dinner that I have organised for MERSEYSIDE YOUTH ASSOCIATION LIMITED, and got confirmation that this amazing charity will be the official charity partner of a huge Liverpool event next year (details to be announced soon!) 😉 - Recruited 10 businesses to take part in Christmas Jumper Day for SHARE, and written and submitted a Charity of the Year proposal to a local business - Created 2 corporate campaigns that will soon be launched for 2 of my clients ... and other stuff! 😃 I am loving every minute, and the fact that I can help to make such a difference is an incredible feeling! If there are any small charities out there that don't have the capacity to have their own internal fundraising team and need some extra support to generate income, I would love to catch up for a brew 🍵 "It's amazing what you can get done in a day!" #charity #bestjobever #helpingothers

  • Exciting announcement! We are absolutely over the moon to announce how much was raised for local good causes following the club's annual Charity Walk in September.... A whopping £10k has been raised to benefit a number of amazing charities in and around our city 😃👏❤️ We are completely blown away, and would like to thank all of our walkers and volunteers for their incredible efforts, particularly in such challenging weather conditions 🌧 We could not have achieved this without the support of event sponsors Chester Racecourse and Magnify PR Nick Owens 🙏 Well done and thank you also to our Executive Council lead Peter Broxton for pulling this all together 👏 👏 #charity #walk #dreamteam
