More than 40 young people, their parents and carers attended an event in Hasland to help them to decide how to kickstart their future career plans. We'll be hosting another event like this in May - it's a great way of finding out more about local apprenticeship opportunities and training after completing GCSEs. 💦 Did you know that the town pump in the Market was installed in 1853? A newspaper report at the time suggested it would be ‘exceedingly useful’ not only for the Market but also for local residents during the dry season when the local reservoir didn’t provide enough water. We’re opening up the space around the pump to try and make it a standout heritage feature on the Market and create an attractive seating area where people can meet. 🏗 Work to refurbish Stephenson Memorial Hall has been rapidly progressing! In the auditorium the steelwork for the new expanded circle seating area has been installed and the new stage has been fitted. There is still lots to do including re-installing the decorative panelling and creating a new lighting feature using the stunning stained-glass windows. At the back of the building the new extension, which provides improved facilities for performers, is almost complete with all the brickwork and roof in place. The mezzanine level for the new circle bar is in place - the new Café Bar space will provide refreshments for visitors both during the day and during intervals at theatre performances. Upstairs the new museum galleries are progressing well – being divided to create new spaces including a high-specification room which will allow us to exhibit items on loan from other museums. Together the refurbishment will help create an exciting new heritage and performing arts centre in the heart of Chesterfield whilst also ensuring the building is preserved for future generations.
