  • Reserve your slot and hold the date in your diary! Last night, fellow committee member Madeline De'Cort and I were invited to the Science Museum to explore the new major exhibition - Versailles: Science & Splendour exhibition. We also had the opportunity to meet up with Will Dave, Head of PR, and Peter Dickinson, Director of Communications at the museum. They extended a warm invitation to all CIPR STEM Group members for a special curated visit to the exhibition planned for the morning of 22nd January from 8.30am - before the museum opens to the public at 10am. If you're interested in joining us for this unique experience, please comment below and we'll pre-reserve your space! Booking details will be circulated to the wider group by CIPR HQ in early January. Spaces are limited so you're hearing it here first! There is no charge to attend the exhibition, we are currently looking at an optional, pay as you go, breakfast. The event will be hosted by immediate past chair of the Group, Andrew Bartlett

Living proof that museums do come alive at night time! Last night Madeline De'Cort and I had the privilege of attending a very special event as guests of Peter Dickinson, Director of Communications, and Will Dave Head of PR at the Science Museum Group. No it wasn't Wicked, as the green colourwash would suggest, it was the recording of the New Scientist Weekly Podcast. The event took place during the annual Science Museum Christmas Lates, so it was an absolutely enchanting evening where the museum opens its doors to adults only, offering a festive and exclusive after-dark experience. The podcast panel, hosted by the brilliant Rowan Hooper, was in full Christmas spirit and featured insightful (and humorous) contributions from Catherine de Lange, Sam Wong, and Madeleine Cuff. Their conversation struck a balance between light and engaging (and in some places a little dark!) was filled with fascinating scientific insights. While I can’t divulge any details before the podcast’s release, I can assure you it’s one to look out for! In fact, if you don't already subscribe to the podcast, it's well worth a listen! We enjoyed exploring the museum after hours and made some excellent connections from the science and communications worlds. Roger Highfield I am afraid I was a little lost on the Star of Bethlehem discussion, that's probably one for a late night and a glass of something strong! A huge thank you to Pete and Will for this fantastic opportunity—it was a night to remember! If you’ve never been to the Science Museum’s Christmas Lates, it’s a truly magical way to explore science and culture in a festive, adults-only atmosphere. Highly recommended! #stem #science #media CIPR STEM

  • Last week, we held the AGM for the Group, where Andrew Bartlett officially handed over the chairmanship of the STEM Group to me — I would like to thank him for his interim role to keep the Group going since the pandemic. I’m now working closely with the current committee to plan an exciting calendar of events for 2025. To get things moving in early 2025, we’ll kick things off with a before hours visit to the Science Museum on 22nd January. Following a personal welcome from the Museum's communications team, we'll take part in a shared curated viewing of Versailles: Science and Splendour. An exhibition which explores the vitally important role science played at the Palace. Owing to the short timeline, we won't have an opportunity to send out a mailing until the New Year, but if you are interested in finding out more, please comment below and we will keep you posted - we're just tying up a few loose ends! We need your help! To develop fresh ideas, speaking opportunities, in-person events, online events and more, we will need a diverse team of imaginative communicators. It will take time to grow the Group and we’re looking to bring on representatives from each of the four pillars of STEM. So if you would like to contribute ideas, join the committee in a role that suits you, suggest an event, host a meeting, share your venue or your SMEs with the group... the list is endless, the we would love to hear from you! It's simple to get hold of me Neil Fullbrook, MCIPR on LinkedIN or see the Group mailing from CIPR HQ which will land in your inboxes later this week. with more details, but I’d love to hear from anyone passionate about STEM who is keen to get involved — in whatever way works for you!
