Gemeinsam für einen intakten Wald, der wieder mehr CO₂ aufnimmt, als er abgibt! 🌲🌳 Ein großes Dankeschön geht an die Arboretum Foundation und die Schüler*innen mehrerer Klassenstufen der Rudolf Steiner Schule Altona, die auf dem Friedhof Diebsteich in Hamburg einen Tiny Forest angepflanzt haben. Wir freuen uns, dass wir unsere Pflanzenkohle beisteuern konnten, die nicht nur einen Teil CO₂ bindet, sondern den Jungpflanzen auch zu einem kräftigen Wachstum verhelfen soll. 1.000 Bäume wurden hier auf einer Fläche von ca. 350 qm gepflanzt - bestehend aus knapp 25 verschiedenen Baumarten. Der Tiny Forest wurde einem natürlichen Wald nachempfunden, wobei die Pflanzen sowohl in die Breite als auch in die Höhe wachsen können. We are delighted that we were able to contribute our biochar, which not only binds part of the CO₂, but also helps the young plants to grow vigorously. 1,000 trees were planted here on an area of approx. 350 square meters - consisting of almost 25 different tree species. The Tiny Forest was modeled on a natural forest, whereby the plants can grow both in width and height. Close planting encourages the young trees to grow faster. Green Claims Open Letter: Safeguarding credible climate claims while driving demand for permanent carbon removals    Circular Carbon has joined 33 signatories, including industry and NGOs, in calling on EU negotiators to ensure that the Green Claims Directive clarifies requirements for companies' climate claims and enables highly-needed private investments in permanent carbon removals.    Our key asks ✅ Compensation claims are allowed before the net zero point ▪️ The Directive must clarify how companies can claim emissions compensation before "net zero" – as long as they progress on their decarbonisation path. ▪️ A too rigid approach, as in the Parliament's position, risks delaying corporate support for CDR, threatening funding and scale-up. ✅ “Like-for-Like” carbon storage is enshrined in EU law ▪️ Fossil emissions must be offset with permanent removals to achieve long-term climate integrity, while biogenic emissions with lower durability removals.  ▪️ To ensure a smooth transition, this principle should be gradually implemented. ✅ Only high-quality, ex-post carbon removal credits are allowed ▪️ Companies should only use retired removal credits, avoiding reliance on future projects that may not materialise. ▪️ The EU should clarify which certifications of equivalent quality, beyond the EU CRCF, can be used to support climate claims.    By setting clear and science-based rules on climate claims, the GCD can protect consumers from greenwashing while accelerating investments in permanent CDR and boosting real climate action.   Read the full letter here: https://bit.ly/4i69GEZ   #GreenClaims #ClimateClaims #ClimateAction #CDR #BCR #Biochar Member of econnext AG #forpeopleforplanetforprofit

Amongst 43 other organizations, Circular Carbon signed the open letter on the “Clean Industrial Deal” initiated by German Biochar e.V. (German Biochar Association). The initiative aims both to strengthen the EU's industrial competitiveness and to assume a global leadership role in climate protection. By 2050, up to 10 gigatonnes of CDR will be needed annually to meet Paris Agreement targets, but only 2 gigatonnes are currently removed. A call for supporting carbon removals in the next EU mandate ✒ Together with 44 other organisations, Circular Carbon has written to Climate Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra ahead of his confirmation hearing in the European Parliament urging him to adopt a set of policies to support a sustainable scale-up of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the next EU mandate. Here are our 4 key recommendations: ➡ Set separate targets for emissions reductions and carbon removals in the revision of the Climate Law ➡ Boost CDR funding to scale up both early- and later-stage technologies ➡ Provide clarity for buyers of CDR in the Green Claims Directive, strengthening the integrity of climate claims ➡ Create stable demand for carbon removals through a compliance market and long-term policy support Carbon removals are vital for reaching net zero.
