Gemeinsam für einen intakten Wald, der wieder mehr CO2 aufnimmt, als er abgibt! 🌲🌳 Ein großes Dankeschön geht an die Arboretum Foundation und die Schüler*innen mehrerer Klassenstufen der Rudolf Steiner Schule Altona, die auf dem Friedhof Diebsteich in Hamburg einen Tiny Forest angepflanzt haben. Wir freuen uns, dass wir unsere Pflanzenkohle beisteuern konnten, die nicht nur einen Teil CO2 bindet, sondern den Jungpflanzen auch zu einem kräftigen Wachstum verhelfen soll. 1.000 Bäume wurden hier auf einer Fläche von ca. 350 qm gepflanzt - bestehend aus knapp 25 verschiedenen Baumarten. Der Tiny Forest wurde einem natürlichen Wald nachempfunden, wobei die Pflanzen sowohl in die Breite als auch in die Höhe wachsen können. We are delighted that we were able to contribute our biochar, which not only binds part of the CO2, but also helps the young plants to grow vigorously. 1,000 trees were planted here on an area of approx. 350 square meters - consisting of almost 25 different tree species. The Tiny Forest was modeled on a natural forest, whereby the plants can grow both in width and height. Close planting encourages the young trees to grow faster. A call for supporting carbon removals in the next EU mandate ✒ Together with 44 other organisations, Circular Carbon has written to Climate Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra ahead of his confirmation hearing in the European Parliament urging him to adopt a set of policies to support a sustainable scale-up of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the next EU mandate. Here are our 4 key recommendations: ➡ Set separate targets for emissions reductions and carbon removals in the revision of the Climate Law ➡ Boost CDR funding to scale up both early- and later-stage technologies ➡ Provide clarity for buyers of CDR in the Green Claims Directive, strengthening the integrity of climate claims ➡ Create stable demand for carbon removals through a compliance market and long-term policy support Carbon removals are vital for reaching net zero. From Policy to Action: Europe's Path to a Trillion-Euro #CDR Industry The latest Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE) study highlights the need to integrate Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) into climate policies with clear removal targets at EU and national levels. Mandating a certain share of emissions to be neutralized via CDR, including its inclusion in the compliance market, can drive significant progress. ☁️ Investment is key. Funding research and growth-stage CDR projects, while reducing administrative barriers, can accelerate innovation. Providing securities, subsidies, and government-backed guarantees among other instruments could stabilize the market and encourage investment. 📈 Governments can lead by example through public procurement initiatives. By further removing regulatory hurdles and fostering CO2 transport & storage infrastructure build-out, they can boost global CDR demand.
