One step closer to a circular economy in Scotland! Today The Scottish Government has launched the final version of Scotland’s Circular Economy and Waste Route Map. We’re delighted that the announcement was made at one of our members, Grassmarket Community Project in Edinburgh, by the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Energy Ms. Gillian Martin. She said: “Reusing and recycling materials has a huge role to play in Scotland’s response to tackling the climate crisis. “We must make the circular option, where we value materials and keep them in use for as long as possible, either in their original form or recycled, an easier choice for Scottish households, businesses and the public sector.” On behalf of our members, Circular Communities Scotland welcomes these updates to the Waste Route Map. We look forward to reviewing the amendments in detail and sharing our thoughts on its potential impact for our sector in the New Year. You can support with the cost of moving through their Crowdfunder UK and help reach £10,000 to make sure this brilliant organisation can continue its work in the heart of its community, changing lives and ensuring 'cycling is for everyone'. Support The Bike Station in moving to a new home! For over 20 years, we have been working in the heart of local communities, changing lives through cycling. We launch this crowdfunding campaign to support our search for a new home after facing staggering rent increases of 158% at our Causewayside location. The Bike Station, known for our work in tackling inequality and empowering grassroots communities through programmes like the Wee Bike Library and Hero Bikes, we need your support in moving to a new home. A user of the Wee Bike Library, just one of our trailblazing initiatives, illustrates the profound impact it’s had in their lives; “We have triplets and so new bikes at Christmas would have been a huge financial burden on us had it not been for Wee Bike Library. This is a fantastic service, and it should continue and grow!” While another beneficiary of The Bike Station’s work, a participant of ‘Shifting Gears’ describes the impact the charity has had on their mental wellbeing; “I cycle everywhere now, this bike has given me a new lease of life. Whenever I feel low, I go out on my bike, which always makes me feel better.” How you can help; 1) Share this post with colleagues, friends and family. 2) Donate to our crowdfunder at https://lnkd.in/deQhgYuB 3) Follow along with our campaign #MyBikeMyJourney and to hear the latest update on our progress.

Living out your values as an environmentally conscious organisation is key. Our CEO, Michael Cook, shares how Circular Communities Scotland has collaborated with our office management STEP Property to support sustainable choices, including secure bike storage and showers. Thanks to STEP's responsiveness and support from Cycling Scotland, our team is proud to keep our carbon footprint low while staying active. It’s partnerships like these that create healthy, engaged communities. Learn more below and watch the video in full.
We’re proud to support organisations making a real difference, like Circular Communities Scotland a national membership body and charity dedicated to reuse, repair, and recycling. Based at our Stirling Business Centre for 16 years, Circular Communities Scotland shared how our team has worked to support their sustainability goals. When they suggested adding bike storage and showers to make cycling to work easier, we were happy to listen and act. With support from Cycling Scotland, Secure bike storage was installed soon after, and last year, showers were added—helping them stay fit and healthy while keeping their carbon footprint low. It’s this kind of collaboration and responsiveness that makes all our locations more than just business spaces - they’re vibrant, supportive communities. #STEPTenant #Sustainability #BusinessCommunity #StirlingBusiness #Stirling

Our Share and Repair Network Coordinator Jane Dixon recently joined the Creative Climate Futures project at The Pavillion Youth Cafe to share insights on how to set up a repair café. She was joined by volunteers from Repair Café Glasgow, who spoke about their experiences supporting one of Glasgow's most successful repair projects. We're very pleased to work with Creative Climate Futures, a project supporting local climate action in Glasgow. Good luck to the community local to the Pavillion, who are hoping to launch a repair café in 2025!
