This week key stakeholders, policymakers, and environmental experts gathered at Ghana's National Dialogue on Clean Air to call for urgent coordinated action on #AirPollution. The country has grappled with #AirQuality challenges, particularly in major cities like Accra and Kumasi, where emissions from vehicles, industrial activities, and waste burning are concentrated. In a positive step, Ghana is partnering with Denmark to introduce innovative solutions like a national transition from non-renewable to renewable energy sources. There’s no surprises in this new study from the US: - Many decarbonisation pathways are great for clean air and health. - Decarbonisation doesn’t always lead to clean air. Biomass and biofuels pollute through increased fertiliser use and when you burn them. - Clean air saves money. “The $65bn to $128bn financial gains from fewer people dying early from air pollution exposure are at least as big as the financial benefits from avoiding direct damage from a changed climate.” #AirQuality #AirPollution Clean Air Fund https://bit.ly/4icvOy8

Shahan Salim, a PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo's School of Public Health Sciences, is breaking new ground in the fight against air pollution and its health impacts. At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, he showcased his groundbreaking platform that combines low-cost air quality sensors, AI technology, and global expertise to deliver early warning systems (EWS) to underserved communities. This platform, co-designed with UNICEF Mongolia, provides real-time air quality data to vulnerable populations, enabling timely interventions to reduce exposure to harmful pollutants. It specifically targets low-income regions where traditional air quality monitoring is either unavailable or insufficient, focusing on protecting at-risk groups like children and the elderly from respiratory and cardiovascular health issues. ⌛ There are just over three weeks to go, there’s still time to have your say in shaping the future of air quality in the UK. 🗨 🍃 We’re inviting asset owners and managers, companies, non-profits, government agencies, and academics to take part and share your insight. That’s why we launched a consultation with the UK’s largest charity asset manager, CCLA Investment Management, to drive investor action to tackle corporate air pollution. Join the consultation - https://lnkd.in/e_SC8k_b
Long-term exposure to air pollution has an effect equivalent to up to 43,000 adult deaths a year in the UK. To play our part in addressing this, we’ve launched a consultation with the UK’s largest charity asset manager, CCLA Investment Management, to drive investor action to tackle corporate air pollution. Businesses and investors are uniquely placed to reduce air pollution by embracing cleaner technologies, which can better position them for future growth and regulatory changes. Our aim is to create a benchmark that transparently compares companies’ air pollution management, backed by coordinated investor engagement and collective policies. Matt Lomas, Our Engagement Director for Investment explains: 💬 “Air quality should be a concern for investors given the impact poor air quality has on people, planet and increasingly businesses as companies’ contributions become more understood. We know that by working together as investors we can work with companies to reduce their negative impacts on the environment and health. Alongside CCLA we are calling on investors and businesses to come together to put air pollution on their sustainability agendas. We believe that via collaboration we can take meaningful action, and in doing so, have a significant positive impact for people and planet as well as business resilience.” This initiative is part of our 10-year philanthropic program to improve air quality in urban areas. The consultation is open for responses until December 17 and is supported by Chronos Sustainability. We’re inviting asset owners and managers, companies, non-profits, government agencies, and academics to click here to join the consultation here. ⏬ ⏬ https://lnkd.in/e_SC8k_b.
