🐋#WorldWhaleDay 🐋 To celebrate these majestic creatures of the sea here are our favourite 5 whale facts: 🐋Largest Animals on Earth Whales are the largest animals to have ever existed. The blue whale holds the record, reaching lengths of up to 100 feet (30 meters) and weighing as much as 200 tons, which is heavier than 33 elephants combined. 🐋Breathing Through Blowholes Whales are mammals and must come to the surface to breathe. They have blowholes on the tops of their heads that allow them to breathe air, and they expel a spout of air and water when exhaling. 🐋Incredible Migrators Many species of whales, such as the humpback whale, are known for their long migrations. They can travel thousands of miles between feeding grounds in cold waters and breeding grounds in warmer, tropical waters. 🐋Social Creatures Whales are often social animals, particularly species like orcas (killer whales), which live in complex family groups known as pods. 🧠MICROPLASTICS IN OUR BRAINS‼️ New research published by the National Geographic this week has found that microplastics and nanoplastics accumulate at higher levels in the brain compared to the liver and kidney, including significantly greater concentrations in the brains of people diagnosed with dementia compared to samples in 2016.
