We have some more dates for your diaries for next year. With the publication of the UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget in February, we will follow this with carbon budget advice in each of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This will provide the complete picture for decarbonisation around the UK and will be published in March and May. https://lnkd.in/gua4_FuF

The UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget level should be set at 535 MtCO2e, an 87% reduction against 1990 levels. It is in line with previous Government commitments – the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Carbon Budgets, international commitments, and the Net Zero commitment in 2050. Electrification makes up 60% of emissions reductions by 2040. This includes decarbonising the grid and replacing fossil fuelled cars and heating systems with electric alternatives. This will require initial investment but we expect to start seeing savings in the Seventh Carbon Budget period. The net cost will be about 0.2% of GDP from now to 2050. This is less than we thought when we last gave advice in 2020. 65-90% of this will be paid by the private sector. But we will need targeted public investment too. It’s important that policymakers ensure this money goes in the right place - to unlock private investment. This country has a prosperous and secure future ahead. The fossil fuel age is over – it’s time to electrify the United Kingdom. https://lnkd.in/e8ktArw6

I'm recruiting again - this time for an Events and Content Senior Manager. What does that really mean? We're looking for someone to support on our big adaptation project next year - called the Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment. The role is primarily about planning, coordinating and managing a series of workshops with the CCC's external stakeholders. It's helping us get the best from them and applying it to our work in a way that gets the most out of everyone's time. You'll get to meet some of the most interesting and well informed people in the UK working on one of the most important topics of our time - and help us turn their inputs into something amazing. What skill sets are we looking for? 💻 Experience in facilitating roundtable events and workshops. Having the ability to to plan the session, prepare the relevant materials, invite the right people and guide conversations effectively. 👥 Experience in building and developing stakeholder groups and effectively communicating with them. If you've got experience in event marketing, this job could be right up your street. 🤝 Experience in coordinating delivery across multiple teams - both inside and outside of your home organisation. It doesn't hurt for you to have an interest in climate, adaptation and/or climate risk! You'll largely be working with me and Florence Bates as we plan for the delivery of this work in 2026. CALL FOR EVIDENCE! In partnership with the Met Office, the Climate Change Committee have launched a second round Call for Evidence to gather input for the Independent Assessment of UK Climate Risk. This will underpin the Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment. We are looking to use this Call for Evidence to gather input for both outputs of CCRA4-IA: 📓 The Technical Report – a review of the risks and opportunities the UK faces from climate change. The Technical Report is being delivered by a consortium led by the Met Office. In this Call for Evidence we are requesting evidence specific to each of the 45 risks and opportunities being assessed (these are set out in the webpage linked above). In particular, we are asking for quantitative evidence about the impact these risks could pose, as well as evidence on how existing and planned government and non-government adaptation will moderate these impacts. 📓 The Well-Adapted UK Report – this new output will set out the adaptation response needed to address the risks and opportunities from climate change. The Well-Adapted UK Report is being delivered by the CCC. For this Call for Evidence, we are requesting evidence about effective adaptation solutions, including evidence of their impact, the investment need and associated barriers and enablers. We are also interested in evidence which could inform targets for climate resilience. The survey for submitting evidence can be accessed online: https://lnkd.in/e3p6eEpQ The Call for Evidence closes on the 31 March 2025. The Call for Evidence helps to ensure we are aware of the latest and most relevant information on UK climate risk and adaptation. Thank you in advance for taking the time to contribute to this important step in our methodology, through which you are supporting the robustness of the CCRA4-IA. Contributions to the Call for Evidence will be acknowledged in both outputs.

The UK played a clear role in supporting the best possible outcomes from this COP at a challenging time. Ultimately, COP29 delivered mixed results. Several decisions have been deferred until next year. The UK can play a significant role in supporting climate progress in the next year, as it did most notably in driving Net Zero targets around the world when it hosted COP26. There are three key areas: 1. The UK is well positioned to support the delivery and mobilisation of the finance goal. 2. The UK needs to ensure the Global Clean Power Alliance complements other coalitions. 3. The UK’s NDC must be formalised, with plans on adaptation and finance included.
