The UK railways, hospitals, airlines, banks… it’s a pretty major outage caused by an update to Crowdstrike antivirus software. This wasn’t a #cyber attack, and much remains unknown at this time, but it goes to highlight the point that failovers, disaster recovery, #platform / application resilience and business continuity planning are just so crucial. Larger businesses have better IT resourcing and will recover quicker, it’s true, but SMEs will suffer. Now would be a good time to put these topics on the Q4 roadmap (a big outage always causes a bit of a stir but we’ve been plugging away at the basics of DR and resilience for big banks and scaling startups for long enough to confidently say it’s always a good time to check in.
