Is the UK heading for gridlock because of rapid network growth and a huge rise in roadworks? Today sees the launch of the ‘Road Ahead’ report, which we produced in partnership with Causeway one.network Causeway Technologies. It examines six years’ worth of UK road and street works data and offers a sobering view on the impact of roadworks in our country. The report highlights the significant increase in works since 2019, the immediate actions needed to futureproof road users and communities and the steps that are needed to better coordinate road works by utilities and local highways authorities. Data within the report from the causeway.one network, shows that roadworks across the UK increased by 42% between 2019 and 2023, with over 203,000 miles of roadworks taking place last year alone. As with many of the issues we face in building more resilient communities, the answers lie in working collaboratively, stronger communication, better data and knowledge sharing and the desire to achieve results that benefit everyone.
