Is resistance training an effective treatment for fatigue in people diagnosed with cancer? Cancer‐related fatigue (CRF) is a feeling of extreme tiredness that lasts for a long time. It can come from cancer or cancer therapy, or both. It affects both the body and mood, and makes it hard to perform regular activities. This #SystematicReview synthesises evidence from 21 studies involving 2221 participants with various types of cancer to evaluate the effects of resistance training on CRF and quality of life. Key insights: 👉 Resistance training during cancer therapy has the potential to improve fatigue and quality of life. 👉 Resistance training after cancer therapy may improve quality of life a little. 👉 More research could help understand the effects of resistance training before cancer therapy. 📖 Read the full #CochraneReview and the #PlainLanguage summary in the #CochraneLibrary - https://lnkd.in/danKnBBc Ernst M, Wagner C, Oeser A, Messer S, Wender A, Cryns N, Bröckelmann PJ, Holtkamp U, Baumann FT, Wiskemann J, Monsef I, Scherer RW, Mishra SI, Skoetz N. Do #calcium supplements during #pregnancy improve the health of babies and mothers? 🤰 👶 Why are calcium supplements taken during pregnancy? Calcium supplements during pregnancy may support the baby’s growth and may reduce the risk of preterm birth, which can lead to health issues for the baby. Pregnant women are often advised to take extra calcium but different health professionals often recommend different doses. 📚 🔍 This updated #SystematicReview looks at the evidence from 19 studies, which involved 16,625 mothers and their babies. Key messages: 👍 Taking high doses (more than 1000 mg) of calcium supplements during pregnancy may lead to slightly fewer babies being born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. There was possibly no difference in unwanted effects, though we found few data for this. 😬 There appeared to be no reduction in the number of babies born before 34 weeks of pregnancy or the number of babies with low birthweight. These are the babies whose health is more severely affected by being born early. 🤷♀️ The impact of mothers taking calcium supplements during pregnancy on babies' and mother's health is likely to be small, if at all. Further studies are needed to be more sure of the data and any unwanted effects. 🤓 Read the full #CochraneReview and the #PlainLanguage summary in the #CochraneLibrary - https://lnkd.in/dNfyW-6q Kongwattanakul K, Duangkum C, Ngamjarus C, Lumbiganon P, Cuthbert A, Weeks J, Sothornwit J.
