Consultancy specialising in environmental, consenting and permitting support for energy projects and developments.
About us
CEA is a growing consultancy specialising in environmental, consenting and permitting support for energy projects and developments on the land-water interface, with terrestrial, marine and coastal components. We have a proven track record in providing robust strategic and technical advice and assisting large scale projects in the renewables and cabling sectors for more than a decade and more recently the nuclear sector. The CEA Ltd team has extensive experience in supporting projects across a variety of sectors, throughout all the lifecycle stages (from project development through to operation and ultimately decommissioning). We have led the environmental management and consenting processes of major offshore infrastructure projects including wind farms developed under Rounds 1, 2 and 3 and interconnectors aimed at securing energy supply for the UK. We have a thorough working knowledge of the DCO process and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects with strong experience in independent assurance, leading the independent oversight and peer review process for Environmental Permitting Applications, the Development Consent Order and supporting environmental impact assessment documentation for a high profile nuclear new build project. As well as practical experience from working on decommissioning nuclear sites, we have also worked on smaller scale energy projects such as onshore solar and wind and have provided technical assistance on specialist issues such as contaminated land. We pride ourselves on working closely with our clients, often as part of the project team to drive forward consenting, permitting, environmental assessment and environmental management by providing innovative and intelligent advice and reducing consenting risk. We have a network of experts who we work in collaboration with to provide targeted support on a range of environmental specialisms, and who can be brought together to meet our client needs.

🌐 Milestone Alert: NeuConnect's 'Invisible Energy Highway' Takes Shape! At CEA, we're proud to have supported NeuConnect in reaching a pivotal milestone in creating an innovative energy connection between the UK and Germany. The project has completed its first phase of cabling, marking a critical step in creating a direct energy link between two of Europe's largest markets. Key Highlights: • 56km of cabling installed in UK waters and onshore • 725km interconnector set to power up to 1.5 million homes • 1.4GW capacity to flow bidirectionally • Cutting-edge 525 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology This £2.4bn/€2.8bn project isn't just about infrastructure – it's about boosting energy security, integrating renewable sources, and demonstrating international collaboration. At CEA we provide NeuConnect with dedicated Marine Consents Management for the UK and Netherlands, ensuring that their contractors are meeting the conditions of their marine licences and that construction is undertaken in line with permit conditions. In collaboration with the technical experts we are required to fully understand proposed construction methods, the potential environmental impacts and communicate to NeuConnect any permitting risks, often in a fast pace manner. As the first phase completes, we're energised by the potential of this transformative energy journey. Cabling works will pause over winter and accelerate in 2025, with the full project expected to complete in 2028, so stay tuned for more updates! Building successful offshore wind markets requires learning from both successes and setbacks. In his article below, CEA's Daniel Bates explores Sweden's renewables journey and maps out considerations for future market development. While challenges exist, opportunities remain for those who learn from past experiences. #CollaborativeEnvironmentalAdvisors #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #Renewables
The recent announcement from the Swedish Government, rejecting 13 offshore wind applications, has raised a number of questions about managing project development risk in emerging markets. My article takes experience from my time working on Swedish offshore wind projects and considers the implications for future development in Sweden and elsewhere. #CollaborativeEnvironmentalAdvisors #CEA #offshorewind #renewableenergy
