Congratulations to Dr. Kseniia Bondarenko, Postdoctoral Research Associate from the Young Lab, for winning 1st place in the Festive Science Image Competition with the Medical Research Council (MRC). Her stunning image, “Twinkling Toxoplasma,” shows human skin cells infected with the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. The parasites’ basket-like skeleton structures, glowing in festive colours, resemble a Christmas tree. This technique helps uncover hidden elements of parasites, paving the way for improved infection treatments. The winning image features on the MRC and Medical Research Foundation's 2024 Season’s Greetings card. 🎉 https://lnkd.in/gDjEj_xg University of Edinburgh School of Biological Sciences I Edinburgh Infectious Diseases I College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, The University of Edinburgh
