The turnstiles at Alphabeta have been busy this week! Always a treat to provide space for our partner events and meet with attendees (and to be in the room to learn from some brilliant guest speakers!) Kudos to Eleanor Kaye and Ashleigh Ainsley FRSA and their respective teams for delivering two great initiatives!
This week we had the pleasure of hosting Colorintech and Newton Venture Program at our UK office. Colorintech's Entrepreneurs in Residence celebrated their final day on the programme with us. Glen Waters, our Head of Early Stage Banking, co-hosted a session on term sheets with Rodney Appiah - Cornerstone VC. The founders also had the chance to connect with Louise Hill - GoHenry, Amman Ahmed - Music for Pets (Create Music Group), and Husayn Kassai – Onfido, in 'ask me anything' sessions. The Newton fellows had a similarly packed day with an intro by our Head of Investor Coverage & Business Development, Stephen Lowery. A session on 'Optimising Capital Structure: Combining Debt and Equity’, hosted by Kyle Randall and Daniel Leitch, from our Relationship Banking team. And finally, a ‘Meet the Leader’ talk with Saul Klein - Phoenix Court and LocalGlobe. We closed out the day with an opportunity for current fellows to connect with alumni in the evening. We are incredibly proud to support both programmes and the important work they do to help innovators in the UK thrive. #Innovation #Founders #Startups #Scaleups

An absolute privilege to join Colorintech at their Entrepreneur in Residence session yesterday with incredibly talented and passionate founders from all backgrounds ❤️ I loved sharing my journey scaling GoHenry from a business born from a personal need to a company addressing a very real global need for #financialeducation amongst young people. Interesting to hear one of the big topics for discussion was whether founders should build immediately in the US rather than in the UK - to access talent, funds, and scale. We really do need to do more to foster growth in the UK before we lose more and more businesses to overseas. Thanks to Kofi Siaw for being a fantastic and welcoming MC 🎤

Starting the year off with a CNBC feature looking at our work with Colorintech and BTF® in the light of a DEI pullback. A huge shout out to Felicity Crossland for helping us land it with great work from Freddie Roberts Jerridah Akena Ben Novick and the wider Milltown Partners team. Sawdah B. and April Roach thanks for covering it all! https://lnkd.in/etVbDKgM For those who want the TLDR I said "If we think about the whole concept of growing Britain and making ourselves a more productive country, then we can’t do that by increasing disparities of productivity across particular social groups, especially when these social groups ... might be minorities, but they’re not insignificant." And Dion McKenzie more diverse workforce leads to “better products, better teams and ultimately more revenue,” McKenzie said, adding that more inclusive employers enable firms to secure the “best of the talent.”

Our founders Ashleigh Ainsley FRSA and Dion McKenzie speak to CNBC on the lack of data, funding and representation in the UK, what the DEI pullback means, and the impact our programming and BTF® is having.
