About us
With over 350 CCF contingents in secondary schools all over the UK, the Combined Cadet Force offers thousands of young people a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities. Our aim is to help young people develop valuable team-working and leadership skills, build their confidence and equip them with valuable life skills such as self-discipline, confidence and resilience. Each CCF is an educational partnership between the school and the Ministry of Defence, and a CCF may include Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army or Royal Air Force sections. The Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP) was launched in June 2012 by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister with the aim to deliver 100 new cadet units in English state-funded schools. Since then the Government has committed to grow the total number of cadet units in schools across the UK to 500 by 2020, which will be supported in part by £50m of Libor funding. The goal is to significantly increase the number of young people who are able to access the cadet experience – a development that is likely to deliver significant benefits to schools and young people.

Well done to the four Year 10 and 11 cadets who have earned their first promotion to Lance Corporal in the CCF. To achieve this, they first had to complete an application form detailing their accomplishments over the past term and expressing their interest in promotion. They have demonstrated outstanding organisation in the field, consistently supported CCF events, and shown a strong commitment to developing their leadership skills. Congratulations, and best of luck as you continue your leadership journey towards future promotions! 50 #CCF cadets from our school recently embarked on an exciting journey to the Training Centre Inskip in Preston, Lancashire. The former Naval Air Station provided a unique backdrop for a week of intensive training and skill development. The cadets participated in a variety of courses, including the RN Junior Leadership programme and the Basic Training Course. Our new Royal Marines cadets had the opportunity to learn specialised skills, such as ship compartment clearing and patrolling as a section. The camp was not without its challenges. The cadets faced several challenges, which tested their resilience and adaptability. Additionally, the demanding physical activities pushed them to their limits, requiring them to dig deep and support each other through the toughest moments. Despite these challenges, the camp was a resounding success. It was not just about rigorous training; it was also a chance for cadets to bond, build teamwork, and experience learning beyond the classroom. The dedication and enthusiasm displayed by all participants were truly inspiring. We are proud of our cadets for their hard work and commitment. This camp has undoubtedly equipped them with valuable skills and experiences that will benefit them in their future endeavours. #dnaofnia #EMATters #LearningBeyondTheClassroom

Making History in the Skies! ✈️ In September 2024, Air Cadets from three ATC Squadrons and a CCF (RAF) Unit soared to new heights as the first-ever cadets to fly solo in a Tutor aircraft! Cadet Warrant Officers Knapp (Exeter School CCF (RAF)), Hughes (Wales & West Region), Bhavsar (LASER Region), and Flight Sergeant Able (Northern Region) made history, completing the three-week programme and earning their Gold Badges! 🥇 The awards were proudly presented by Group Captain Sohail Khan, Regional Commandant for Scotland & Northern Ireland. Reflecting on the achievement, Cadet Warrant Officer Knapp shared, "I had such an amazing time—one I will never forget. A huge thank you to 12 AEF and my contingent commander for making this possible!" Congratulations to these trailblazing cadets for their incredible accomplishment! 👏 #CCF #AirCadets #RAF #CCFA #CadetsInSchools #MakingHistory

What a proud moment today for the CCF. We couldn't do what we do without volunteers, we appreciate you all 🫡
A proud moment for our cadet force adult volunteers (CFAVs), who have been awarded Coronation Medals in recognition of their outstanding service. These medals mark their dedication, with at least five years of service under their belts at the time of King Charles III's Coronation on 6th May 2023. The fab four receiving this honour are (left to right): Lt T Van Der Werff (OC Royal Navy Section) Maj G Scoble (Contingent Commander) Flt Lt J Zambon (OC RAF Section) WO1 D Twigg (SSI) Presented by our Head, Pete Thomas, the medals are a testament to their commitment and leadership to guide our young cadets. 👏👏👏 Combined Cadet Force (CCF) | Official #Community #Cocurricular #ccf #service #cadets #berkshireschools #learningbeyondtheclassroom

Looking back on some of the amazing things I accomplished with King Edwards School Bath CCF, part of Combined Cadet Force (CCF) | Official. I learnt so many crucial skills that have and will serve me well for many years. It was an incredible organisation to be a part of, especially as it was one of the oldest cadet units in the country.

🦾 Building for the Future with the Contingent Growth Fund! In 2024, the Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA) proudly supported schools across the UK by awarding essential items and infrastructure through the Contingent Growth Fund grant programme. 🫰 From new equipment to upgraded facilities, these grants empower schools to expand their CCF contingents and provide even more opportunities for young cadets to thrive. These investments not only enhance training and activities but also help create environments where cadets can build confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong memories. 😃 Thank you to the CCFA for their dedication to supporting the next generation of leaders.
