It's a basic rule of engineering that something designed to do a specific job does it better and more efficiently than something you bolt on afterwards. Why, then, would you construct a building without incorporating the fire protection design from the very start? Bringing fire protection expertise in too late in the new build process can leave you with massive compliance bungles - and a big bill to put them right. But if you involve our team of experienced and certified fire specialists at the design stage, you'll be on top of your fire compliance obligations - passive fire protection (PFP), Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), Fire Strategy - from day one - no omissions, no rework. What makes effective fire prevention in a commercial building? How do you protect millions of pounds' worth of property and precious human life from the threat of flames and smoke? Put it this way - it can be complex, and to be legally compliant the process must be carried out by competent specialists, and must cover, amongst others: 🔸 Active fire protection measures (fire extinguishers, alarms, sprinklers. etc.) 🔸 Passive fire protection (PFP) measures (fire doors, fire-resistant partitions, ceilings, and floors, intumescent seals, etc.) 🔸 Evacuation, dentification and marking of escape routes, emergency lighting and signage 🔸 A Fire Risk Assessment (FRA), which informs all the other measures, and documents work carried out to deliver on them Learn more about fire prevention - and get a handy online tool to help make FRAs that bit easier for you ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eXJ7nxzg #passivefireprotection #fireprevention #FireSafety #FireStrategy #fireriskassessment

Almost every day, our specialist team at Commercial Fire Protection sees commercial buildings that have had to undergo extensive and costly rework because fire protection wasn't considered early enough in the building's design. An absolute classic is what we call 'penetrations' - holes that have to be cut (and then sealed) in fire-resistant partitions to accommodate cables, pipework, ventilation ductwork, and so forth. Because the process is not taken into account at the design stage, it's often carried out as an afterthought by those not competent to do it! Result: penetrations are often the wrong size, services go through the same penetration when they shouldn't, or aren't properly distanced from each other, and combustible and non-combustible service types are (dangerously) mixed up together. And that costs a lot of time and money to sort out. Involving a fire specialist from the start will save you a lot of pain later on. Fire protection in commercial buildings isn't a job for the unqualified (the law says so!) This is why our team here at Commercial Fire Protection is certified and accredited by fire industry bodies as competent to carry out fire protection work. But contrary to what you might think, fire protection isn't only something that needs to be considered once the building's actually built. In fact, our team will work with building designers and architects from the very earliest stages of construction to ensure fire protection is a hard-wired benefit of the building's design - not an afterthought! In short, your building project needs a fire specialist sooner rather than later! The crucial role of fire strategy in building development 🚨 Incorporating a fire strategy early in the building development process is not just a regulatory requirement - it's best practice. Conducting a Qualitative Design Review (QDR) at the project’s outset, with the involvement of key stakeholders, ensures that fire safety is a core consideration from the very beginning. This proactive approach helps identify and address potential fire safety issues before construction starts, significantly reducing the risk of costly remedial work down the line. For existing buildings, maintaining an up-to-date fire strategy is equally essential. Whether a building undergoes refurbishment, a change of use, or simply ages, its fire strategy must be reviewed and updated to reflect any changes in fire risk. Even if a building already has a fire strategy, it should be regularly revisited to ensure it aligns with new technologies, developments, and legislative requirements. At Commercial Fire Protection, we are committed to ensuring that fire safety is integrated seamlessly into every stage of a building’s life, from design to operation.
