What does fulfilling work look like for Africa's youth? Africa is the world's youngest and fastest-growing continent; by 2030, there will be 375 million young people in its job market. However, the lack of dignified and fulfilling job opportunities, and youth unemployment is as high as 65% in South Africa, and 80% in Djibouti. The Youth Employment Evidence and Insights Hub (YEEIH), an initiative led by the Pan-African Collective for Evidence NPC (PACE), is working in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to deliver their ambitious Young Africa Works Strategy, which aims to enable 30 million young people in Africa, especially young women, to secure employment that they see as dignified and fulfilling. YEEIH will produce 15 rapid evidence reviews over the next year on a range of thematic areas of youth unemployment to inform Mastercard Foundation programming on the continent. The reviews will include indigenous and local sources of knowledge, alongside the more traditional research evidence included in synthesis studies. CommsConsult role in this project is twofold: 💡To ensure the effective communication of evidence, both to the client and the public at large. 💡To support and build the capacity of the project partners to be effective strategic communicators, both of the project and their own institutions. 🌐CommsConsult recently collaborated with the World Trade Organisation to showcase the impactful work of their Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF)programme. 🌍Despite playing a crucial role in poverty alleviation, LDCs represent just 2% of global trade. EIF’s investment of over $220 million in 51 countries has helped them maximise their trade potential and integrate it into national development plans. 🐝From boosting Zambia’s honey sector, to closing the gender gap in Ethiopia’s digital economy, and supporting Bhutan’s pursuit of national happiness, EIF’s initiatives have had transformative effects. The CommsConsult team crafted engaging impact stories that spotlighted the human impact of EIF’s work. We interviewed project leaders and beneficiaries, who told us how these trade initiatives directly impacted their lives and livelihoods. 💡To read more about what we did and what we learned, read the case study on our website: https://lnkd.in/eQe_CWcQ ️To read our EIF impact stories, visit: https://lnkd.in/eaHeC8pn Farai Samhungu @Kudzai Makombe @Zeinab Sabet #TradeForDevelopment #SustainableDevelopment #ImpactStories #EnhancedIntegratedFramework #WorldTradeOrganisation

"I pledge to provide the leadership that the continent needs to change its narrative - from corruption to accountability, from poverty to prosperity, from ignorance to knowledge, from dependence to action. Because I am an African." Inspiring words Hastings Chikoko - well said! Glad to have travelled some of that journey with you. Travel well and keep flying that proud flag!
Again! I am an African. I owe my existence to the soil, people and abundant resources of Africa. The care and generosity of the African people. The nourishment from the African animals and plants. The mood from the African sunshine and moonlight. The cooling and cleansing of the African winds, rain, rivers and waters. The healing from the African herbs. The warmth from the African sun and African peoples. With the support from all the friends and partners of Africa located far and wide. Because of all these, I can say again, I am an African. And I see Africa as a continent full of potential and hope. A continent with unexploited resources and minerals. A continent with fastest growing economies. The fastest urbanizing continent. I pledge to provide the leadership that the continent needs to change its narrative - from corruption to accountability, from poverty to prosperity, from ignorance to knowledge, from dependence to action. Because I am an African.

CommsConsult recently evaluated Thomson Reuters Foundation’s impactful Wealth of Nations programme, which empowered journalists across the African continent to tackle and expose illicit financial flows (IFFs). Every year, Africa loses almost US$90 billion in the movement of money across borders that is illegal in its source, transfer, or use. That’s nearly 4% of the continent’s GDP. Standing as a formidable force in journalism, Thomson Reuters Foundation is on a mission to advance media freedom and human rights awareness across the globe. Between 2017 and 2023, they trained 512 journalists in four languages – Arabic, Portuguese, French, and English – with the hopes of making them confident to investigate and expose IFFs, and put pressure on their governments to address the issue. The CommsConsult team looked for evidence of the programme’s impact in documentation, and through interviews with the journalists, editors, trainers and mentors themselves, to assess the programme’s three outcomes: 💡Increase journalists’ motivation and ability to report on IFFs 💡Increase newsrooms’ motivation and capacity to report on IFFs 💡Increase stakeholders’ knowledge about IFFs in Africa, as well as their ability to act to reduce IFFs, or publish content about it To read more about our evaluation approach and the insights we learned, read the case study on our website: https://lnkd.in/eTaidF3p #IllicitFinancialFlows #MediaFreedom #InvestigativeJournalism #JournalismTraining #ThomsonReutersFoundation
