Community Energy Scotland is delighted to have been part of the Island Futures research project. Funded by the The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network https://lnkd.in/eHwcXQ4p seed fund, led by Dr Rosie Alexander, University of the West of Scotland/Aarhus University; Dr Bobby Macaulay, University of the Highlands and Islands; and Dr Becky Ford, University of the Highlands and Islands/Community Energy Scotland, the project looked at how research practices in and for island communities can be strengthened. Two online workshops were held with 20 representatives from organisations based in the Scottish islands recruited through CES networks. Participants identified a series of priorities for improving research practices in their communities, represented by the acronym CARE: Connected, Aligned, Resourced, Effective – these have been used to develop a set of guidelines for islands research. The project report and guidelines for research in island communities are available on the Scottish Islands Research Network website https://lnkd.in/e99mUWeR. The Energy Learning Network (ELN) are setting up an advisory board made up of members of community organisations across the UK who are acting on energy. The purpose of the board is to act as a sounding board in the design and development of the ELN. We are looking for board members from across the UK as well as from the different types of community groups that act on energy. This is a non-decision making role and as such you do not need previous experience of being on a formal board. Instead, we are looking for those individuals who have an interest in the Energy Learning Network, and who have relevant experience in community energy that would enable them to give advice on the development and delivery of the programme.  Advisory Board members will be expected to attend one online meeting every 6 months for the period of the National Lottery Funding for the ELN (i.e. up to March 2028). Board members will be reimbursed for their time at a rate of £150 per meeting – this should cover time spent reading papers before the meeting as well as attending.
