  • Our on-stage discussion in Utah last week, at the Advanced Reactor Summit XII, has featured in Westinghouse Electric Company social media too. And there is an important reason why we’re posting it here again… The more ‘noise’ we all create online, with the likes and follows and reposts that we probably don’t usually give a second thought to, the more we send a message. For example, we show investors how important this new market is. We show politicians our strength of feeling about it. We remind the media what the hot topics are. And we assure communities there are real opportunities available to them. So whether we are talking about energy security, new nuclear, #NetZeto generally, or specifically about the private funding model for investment in regional economic growth - like our #PowerToLiquids project with #GreenLizard in North Tees – all those little actions we take while we’re scrolling our phones actually add up to a big impact. This is why we are delighted to see our project featured on Westinghouse’s social media yesterday … and why we appreciate every one of you for your online support! Chris Sheryn Dr. Rita Baranwal

Last week, Westinghouse attended the United States Nuclear Industry Council Advanced Reactor Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah. Senior Vice President for AP300™ SMR Dr. Rita Baranwal hosted a Fireside Chat with Chris Sheryn from Community Nuclear Power (CNP) discussing the economic impact of clean energy on host communities. Our partnership with CNP on #AP300 SMR deployment in the United Kingdom will drive economic growth in the North Tees community. The project will supply clean energy for industrial production. Our team also met with Utah representatives who are interested in deploying the AP300 SMR in their state to support residential and commercial applications. Thanks to everyone who attended our presentation and met with us at the summit!

  • Just reflecting on last week, and noting the rapidly growing breadth and scale of interest in our model at CNP… The huge potential for privately funded, clean energy as a lever for economic growth and social impact is exciting diverse audiences. And our speaking roster last week encapsulated that perfectly. While Chris Sheryn was introducing the CNP concept to sector leaders and experts across the Atlantic in Utah, our Chief Legal Officer, Andrew Carr was in London to host a discussion with one of the UK’s most historic think-tanks and to join a Round Table with HM Treasury. Members of The Romney Street Group, founded in 1917 to help shape reconstruction after the Great War, were highly engaged in our discussion about #SMRs at The Athenaeum on Pall Mall. Topics such as the funding challenge, energy prices, and geopolitical issues were brought to life by our being able to share our live deployment of nuclear energy for #PowerToLiquids on the #GreenLizard fuels and chemicals hub in North Tees. Andrew also took part in a discussion with a senior leader from HM Treasury, putting CNP at the table alongside household brands including BBC, Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover UK, The International Aviation Group and others. With a shared interest in clean power for transport, aviation and data, for example, we talked about ways to promote economic growth for the UK as well as ensuring the growing power demand can be met securely and cleanly. In keeping with recent government announcements, we talked more about how efficient process, from regulation to planning consents, will build investor confidence and attractiveness - though of course we reinforced the critical need to uphold safety regulations. This is a very new market, but the interest in SMRs and what they can do for industry, for communities, for the economy is growing fast.

There’s line in this post, this significance of which is easily missed. ‘…we need development companies to help accelerate deployment’. It’s great that there’s so much excitement about new technologies in this sector. However, let us not forget that technology innovation, whilst essential, is insufficient to get to an operational outcome. If the SMR tech’ is the ‘what’, the DevCos are the ‘how’. If we are to realise the huge potential that SMRs represent, companies such as Community Nuclear Power in the UK and Elementl Power in the USA are needed to undertake all the tasks and roles required to deploy and ultimately operate. You might consider it as a Zen problem of sorts… ‘if an SMR technology exists and there’s no devco to deploy and operate it, can it actually exist?’ Arthur Dwight Hyde, CFA Charles Oppenheimer

Today I had the pleasure of hosting a great panel at the 2025 Nuclear Energy Institute Financing Summit in NYC. We discussed the need for development companies to help accelerate #nuclear deployments across the USA. Our panelists discussed different approaches to incentivize investment, re-align risk sharing and enable economies of scale through standardized project development - with lessons learned driving improved project delivery and (hopefully) lower, more predictable costs. Thanks to Dan Faherty from Elementl Power, Charles Oppenheimer of Oppenheimer Energy, W. Robbie Stewart of Alva Energy and Tom O'Neill of Blue Energy for participating.

  • Our partners at #GreenLizard are now members of NOF - the UK’s leading energy sector network. Green Lizard Power To Liquids Ltd runs the #PowerToLiquids fuels and chemicals park offtaking CNP’s clean, always-on nuclear energy to produce nationally critical fuels, such as #SAF, at significant scale. We’ll be working closely together - and with our supporters at NOF, of course - to help reindustrialise Teesside and enable economic growth for generations to come. • Presenting a very different model for nuclear energy… Great session on stage at #AdvancedReactorsSummitXII in Salt Lake City, Utah yesterday. Chris Sheryn and Dr. Rita Baranwal (#AP300 SVP at Westinghouse Electric Company) talked in depth about demand-led opportunities for small modular reactors - illustrated perfectly by our project on the #GreenLizard fuels and chemicals park in North Tees. There, our clean and always-on power will enable reindustrialisation in the region, in the #PowerToLiquids production of critical fuels such as #SAF. It puts energy right where it can make most impact, providing a lever for economic growth and social prosperity for generations to come. This is why our model at #CNP is demand-led rather than supply-led. Yes, we need more clean power generally, and lots of it. But our bigger question to the communities talking to us about #SMRs and #microgrids in their region is this: what will you do with that power? The answers to this question create a very great deal more economic growth and social impact than the simple value of the power.

  • We’re going global… Co-founder and Chief Development Officer, Chris Sheryn, is speaking today at the Advanced Reactors Summit XII, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The #ARSummitXII brings together experts, executives, policy-makers and thought-leaders to share ideas and concepts that drive #advancedreactor design, deployment and operations. Chris is sharing the stage with Hon. Dr. Rita Baranwal. Rita is Senior Vice President leading on #AP300 #SMRs at Westinghouse Electric Company, but will be known and well-regarded also to many at the conference as a former Assistant Secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy in the US Department of Energy. Rita and Chris are looking at alternative models for reactor deployment, focusing on our engagement with communities to enable new, emerging markets for nuclear generation. Of course, our project in North Tees offers a brilliant example of this already underway, enabling nuclear #PowerToLiquids at the world-leading #GreenLizard fuels and chemicals park - helping to reindustrialise the region, and providing at scale some of the UK’s priority green fuels such as #SAF. More from Utah later!

Westinghouse fully endorses HMG’s efforts to accelerate #NuclearEnergy new-builds in support of energy security, jobs, industry and prosperity in the United Kingdom. Access to clean, reliable nuclear power is key to unlocking the UK’s vast industrial potential and revitalising its manufacturing heritage. We are proud to be at the forefront of these efforts with partners such as Community Nuclear Power. Thank you Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for your leadership!

We're introducing a new planning framework and removing the barriers to new nuclear ⚛️     Helping speed up the development of new nuclear technologies, streamline engagement with regulators and allow greater flexibility to deploy nuclear where it is needed such as closer to industrial clusters to help power and decarbonise them 🏭     The move will also support the creation of new jobs, unlock investment opportunities to boost economic growth and accelerate Britain to clean energy superpower status.     Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/e-ZSYT48

  • Who REALLY benefits from Keir Starmer's plans to streamline #nuclear #regulation, announced by the Prime Minister a few hours ago? The answer is: pretty much everyone. It's not just good news for the sector, to see the PM throwing his support behind SMRs. Increasing efficiency could enable more private #investment in the UK, faster #economic growth, a shift to #NetZero, and could even mean cheaper household bills. Here's why: Investor confidence increases. Deploying #SMRs gets faster and #ROI gets paid sooner - making nuclear energy an even more attractive investment proposition (with lower cost of capital). The UK attracts more inward investment. Clean energy is already an important sector for investors, but a country in which it is easier to do business is a magnet for #growth. Industry benefits. For example - the sooner we can provide clean, always-on power to sites like the world-leading #GreenLizard #PowerToLiquids park in North Tees, the sooner they can produce, at large scale, the green chemicals and fuels the UK desperately needs, like #SAF. Local economies grow. Powering sites like the #GreenLizard hub will create huge opportunities for its communities, including employment, entrepreneurship and learning. The environment benefits. More clean #energy (and, in our project, more #cleanfuels.) Power gets cheaper. One of the biggest costs of power is the cost of capital and faster ROI can lower that, so the power gets cheaper. And having seen our energy bills sky-rocket in recent years, whether you are big industry or a household, who doesn't want cheaper #electricity bills? This is good news from the PM this morning, and we are excited to see what national opportunities this unlocks. • Great post from Iolo James at the Nuclear Industry Association. The absolute, always-on dependability of #nuclear energy is one of the reasons why #SMRs are such an obvious choice for innovative industry such as the #GreenLizard green chemicals and fuels park that our #Teesside project will power. And we don’t have to worry about the spending review, because our project is privately funded. Clean #energy right where it is needed, AND billions of pounds of private #investment for economic #growth in the UK! To echo Energy Minister Lord Philip Hunt said at #NuclearWeek, what’s not to like?

Clean Power is impossible without nuclear... so let's get building ⚡ This winter, still and cloudy conditions have tested our power grid, forcing us to burn more and more gas just to keep the lights on. Last week, on 22 January, gas was at 70% of the mix, driving up emissions and power prices to a two-year high. Wind power accounted for 2.5% of the mix and the only regions with a low carbon intensity had nuclear power stations, the only 24/7 clean power source. This week, #NuclearWeek in Parliament has shone a light on why we need more nuclear on the grid, not only for clean power but for jobs and prosperity. The Energy Minister Lord Philip Hunt put it best at one of our events, declaring “what is not to like” about nuclear for growth, economic security and decarbonisation. He's right. Timing is everything and this period ahead of the Spending Review is the most important in the sector's history as we await final decisions on the SMR competition and Sizewell C, which will pave the way for other projects like Wylfa, AMRs and more. The time really is now. Thanks to all Nuclear Industry Association members for what we hope will prove to be the most consequential Nuclear Week to date, and of course to the excellent NIA team driven this week by Millie Beaver & Joseph Ridding. #nuclear
