We give teenagers the power to tell their own stories and create their own change.
About us
Company Three is a leading force for change for teenagers in our local community and around the world. We are a theatre company led by the ideas of our 75 members aged 11-19. We recruit our members through deep-rooted relationships locally and share our practice globally to impact teenagers everywhere. Working in Islington, North London, we make transformative theatre through long-term collaboration between young people and professional theatre-makers. Our plays have been performed at the National Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, the Royal Exchange Theatre, the Yard Theatre, the Park Theatre, New Diorama Theatre and on the BBC. We share our practice locally, nationally and internationally. Our blueprints have been used by more than 500 groups in more than 30 countries to co-create work with young people. We have trained hundreds of artists through our training courses. Our awards include the Peter Brook Empty Space Award for Innovation, the Stage Award for Community Project of the Year and Outstanding Drama Initiative at the Music and Drama Education Awards. At Company Three we believe youth theatre can be a place of community, radical art and social change. Despite our global reach, we are fiercely local to and are proud to work with the young people of Islington about the issues which affect them most.

We wanted to share that we are leaving X (previously known as Twitter) and you can find us on Bluesky instead. One of our three rules at Company Three is Be Yourself. It's important to us that everyone we work with can fully and truly be themselves, and the only way for this to happen is if we create safe, inclusive spaces, and call out when we don't see that happening, both at C3 and elsewhere. We think a real commitment to equity, equality and diversity means not supporting or working with organisations that undermine that ethos. Over the past few months, and especially this Summer, it was clear to us that X was doing just that. Instances of (and the intentional platforming of) racism, Islamophobia, hatred, misinformation and discrimination on X are not something we want to be complicit with. So, you can find us on Bluesky instead at @companythree.bsky.social - for C3 updates, joy and musings. We'd love to see you there.

Did you watch our #BlackIs films yesterday? They were made by members of BlackisSafe, our Affinity Group for young Black members. Affinity Groups are spaces for our young people to talk and creatively explore parts of their identity with other members and artists who share their identity. Learn how you would set up your own affinity group with our Blueprints. More here: https://loom.ly/0ddTKFI

And #BlackIs Boys Archive. A short film created by Mackenzie, Jerry, Shilton and DaQuarn, and directed by Nuna Sandy. We're so proud to share #BlackIs I Love yours and I Love mine. A short film created by Love, Allegresse, Nia and Danae, and directed by Nuna Sandy. These girls explore in their own way how to pull out generational roots by understanding what it means, and what it would do, to truly embrace the phrase 'dividing and conquering is hard when I Love your and I Love mine.' Tomorrow at 15:00, we're launching our two #BlackIs short films and our Affinity Group blueprint. This project started in 2020. First, it was an Affinity Group, a space for our Black young people and Black staff to have those unfiltered conversations, rants, musings, laughter and cries, and to explore this part of their identity creatively. Then we co-created a play #BlackIs, which we performed at Pleasance Theatre in 2022 and New Diorama Theatre in 2023. This Summer we created two short films, filmed around Islington with brilliant local filmmakers. And then we created a resource pack, for anyone interested in creating identity led performance work with teeangers, and holding space for that well. We share it all with you tomorrow.

We believe that Young people everywhere should be able to creatively explore their identity. It's crucial that spaces to do that are joyful, safe and uncensored. In two days, we'll share our Affinity Group Blueprint: a set of resources for youth theatres or groups who are interested in Affinity Groups: spaces for young people to come together with other young people and artists who share an identity, and to creatively explore that together. We'll be sharing the Blueprint alongside two short films that were created by young people from Black is Safe, our first affinity group.

In three days, we'll share two short films we co-created with members of Black is Safe, our Affinity Group for young Black members of C3. #BlackIs Boy's Archive looks at the stereotypes, images and expectations put on Black boys - not just by non-Black people, but by the Black community too. #BlackIs I love yours and I love mine looks at colourism within the Black community, and it's origins in white supremacy culture. Keep an eye out...
