Our wonderful new film made with help from Media Trust, The Mercers' Company, The Springhead Film Company Ltd and Ibstock Place School has been entered into the Smiley Movement Film Awards! Please help us by voting for our film and giving us a chance at winning. A film that we've been told "could be a John Lewis Christmas advert" deserves some recognition. 😉 Thank you for all your support in sharing this link: https://lnkd.in/eVtEjkrq Coram The Very Group Gary Chesterman Philip Nelson Hanif Barma Jill Pay

To celebrate World Children’s Day, St Giles Hotels, the hotels’ foundation, Hotels With Heart, and renowned illustrator Eleanor Tomlinson visited Gateway Academy, a primary school located in Westminster, for an art competition to support Coram.    Eleanor visited a Year 4 class of children aged between eight and nine years to give them an illustration masterclass, followed by a short Q&A. The children were asked to draw something with the theme ‘What fills your heart with love’, a nod to the hotel’s own foundation Hotels with Heart, which supports and mentors children and young people in alignment with Coram’s work.     The children’s artwork was then judged by Eleanor, St Giles Hotels and Coram. The three winning pieces of art will be framed and exhibited in St Giles London Hotel’s Signature rooms for guests to enjoy and donate via a QR code to support Coram. The three winners, Ayah, Ziad and David, also received bespoke prizes from Eleanor⭐   Dr Carol Homden CBE, CEO of Coram, said: "We are most grateful to St Giles Hotels, their guests and to Eleanor for all their support through this imaginative initiative, enabling us to reach more children through our wellbeing education in schools, creating change that will last a lifetime. Well done to all the children for their wonderful creations and congratulations to our winners."    CEO of St Giles Hotels, Abigail Tan, said: “Our partnership with Coram holds a special place in our hearts at St Giles Hotels. We believe deeply in the power of community and giving back, and supporting Coram’s mission to transform children’s lives reflects our commitment to creating hope and opportunities for young people. The winning artworks will bring extra warmth to our Signature rooms at St Giles London Hotel, where our guests can also learn more about this inspiring cause and join us in making a difference.”   The relationship with St Giles Hotels was set up with Coram Corporate Account Manager Joanne L. and they are partnering with Coram for three years, pledging £25,500 through Hotels with Heart, and raising additional funds via a host of activities. Funds raised support the work of Coram Life Education helping thousands of children to acquire the life skills they need to thrive. And as part of an ongoing Christmas campaign, through Hotels with Heart, St Giles Hotels will be donating £1 for every room of which there are 730 (guests will be invited to match it) via a QR code in the rooms and at Reception. Thank you St Giles Hotels for your continued support 🙌 #corporatepartner #fundraising #charity #childrenscharity #wearecoram

🎄 Spreading Christmas Cheer with a Purpose 🎄 This festive season, we’re thrilled to launch our "Never Wanted To Leave" Christmas campaign at Kimpton Fitzroy London. I am especially touched by this initiative, which combines the magic of the holidays with a meaningful cause close to our hearts. In partnership with Coram, the UK’s oldest children’s charity, this campaign supports young people transitioning out of the care system — a journey filled with challenges that many of us couldn’t imagine. 🌟 The heart of the campaign: A reimagined guestbook, featuring young care leavers. These stories provide a powerful glimpse into their resilience and courage. Guests are invited to contribute by leaving their own messages of support, alongside a donation to Coram. 🎁 How you can join us: Purchase a beautifully designed Christmas bauble for £25, with all proceeds going directly to Coram. Every bauble helps make a difference in the lives of young people stepping into adulthood. This campaign is more than just holiday decor or festive celebrations. The High Court’s use of its inherent jurisdiction to deprive children of their liberty—described in Re T (A Child) [2021] UKSC 35 as “an imperfect stopgap, not a long-term solution”—has become a troubling norm, raising concerns about its ability to adequately protect the children it is intended to safeguard.   A deprivation of liberty must always be lawful, proportionate and absolutely necessary. However, a lack of clarity and inconsistent approaches can result in disproportionate or unnecessary restrictions, violating children’s fundamental rights and dignity, with judicial oversight often relegated to an afterthought.

Depriving a child of their liberty should be the last resort. My report today reveals the extent of challenges children under a deprivation of liberty order have told me they face - too many are voiceless, without a say in decisions made about their care: https://lnkd.in/esurieXD

We stand with Mission 44 and Lewis Hamilton in calling for the Government to #PreventExclusions. As school exclusions reach record numbers, Mission 44, Sir Lewis Hamilton’s Charitable foundation, launches the ‘Nothing Happens in Isolation’ campaign aimed at supporting students most at risk of exclusion through early intervention. As part of the campaign, Mission 44 has published a first of its kind report which explores opinions of those at the heart of the issue - including teachers, parents and students. Mission 44’s report found that, in most cases, teachers spotted early warning signs from students that go on to be excluded, further highlighting the crucial role of early intervention. Mission 44 is now calling on the Government to take action to address the root causes of exclusions, in an effort to turn the tide on record exclusion rates across UK schools. Mission 44 also recommends four priority areas, with policy recommendations, for the Government to take action on. Let’s build a more inclusive education system that benefits everyone - and protects our most vulnerable learners. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eKahDH_H Mission 44 supports our School Exclusions Hub, an extensive resource giving professionals and organisations working with families and young people the vital information they need to understand the exclusion process and challenge exclusion. When our Founder, Lewis Hamilton set-up Mission 44 three years ago, tackling school exclusions was a key priority. At 15 years old, Lewis was temporarily excluded himself, before being reinstated in his classroom, and has spoken about the impact this had on his mental health and fears for the future. 🚨 Today, as school exclusions reach record numbers, we’re launching the ‘Nothing Happens in Isolation’ campaign, aimed at supporting students most at risk of exclusion through early intervention. 📝 As part of the campaign, together with Public First, we’ve published a first of its kind report which explores opinions of those at the heart of the issue - including teachers, parents and students. The report found that, in most cases, teachers spotted early warning signs from students that go on to be excluded, further highlighting the crucial role of early intervention. 🗣️ Now, we’re calling on the Government to take action to address the root causes of exclusions, in an effort to turn the tide and #PreventExclusions across UK schools. To do this, we have highlighted four priority areas, with policy recommendations, for the Government to take action on. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eKahDH_H

We are delighted to announce the support of global law firm Linklaters for the expansion of Coram Children's Legal Centre (CCLC) school exclusion clinic over the next two years. This support will help us reach more children and young people whose chances in life are being blighted by school exclusion and help them to get their voices heard. CCLC, in collaboration with volunteers from law firms, runs the school exclusion clinic, which offers free legal representation to parents or carers of children and young people who have been permanently excluded from school. Mital Raithatha , CCLC Head of Education Law said; “At a time when school exclusions are on the rise and they disproportionately affect certain groups of children, the innovative work of our school exclusions clinics with pro bono corporate lawyers has never been more needed. We are so grateful to Linklaters for this funding which will mean we are able to expand our reach and impact to more children.” Lizzie Harker-Noor, Associate (Pro Bono) at Linklaters said “We are proud to support the expansion of CCLC’s school exclusion clinic. The clinic empowers young people and their families to navigate the exclusions process robustly and access vital support. This work is especially crucial given the enduring disparities in exclusion rates among different demographic groups of young people.
