Financial Planning for GTM | Partner | CFP

Our POV Most elite GTM professionals do not have the time, confidence, or inclination to manage their financial planning Despite being highly successful, and earning substantial amounts of money, very few are 'financially secure' Over the years, leaders and ICs at some of the most successful playbook companies have engaged with us to finally get on top of their planning BMC MongoDB Wiz Zscaler DataDog Harness etc. It is never too late, or too early, to build a real plan #gtm #sales #saas

'The financial guidance from Will over the last 3 years has been amazing. It was clear from the first engagement that he has a wealth of knowledge about not only his industry but also mine. He has made things I didn’t understand crystal clear, and helped me map out long term financial plans that in years to come I know my older self with be thankful for. It’s really no surprise that so many sales professionals work with Will, If you’re thinking about, I strongly recommend you have that first chat.' Getting organised is a challenge for GTM Tracking down old pensions Updating details with providers Getting a view of all savings / investments / shares A consolidated view is a logical first step when building a plan But getting there isn't easy We spend a lot of time each week chasing clients (accountability) If you're a high-performing leader/IC, and feel you're not on top of your financial planning, get in touch We can help you organise, consolidate, and plan for the future #saas #sales #gtm

Elite GTM professionals often want to retire before 57 (pension age) How to create an income before pensions: 1) ISAs 2) GIAs 3) Offshore bonds ISAs - 2x £20k allowances every FY (incl. spouse) - No income tax or CGT - Flexibly accessible GIAs (General Investment Account) - No annual allowance - Income tax on reinvested divs + CGT on gains - 2x £3k CGT allowances used to offset gains each year - Gains taxed at 18% (lower) + 24% Offshore bonds - No annual allowance - No income tax or CGT on gains (unless chargeable event) - 'Tax-deferred' withdrawals = predictable income Basic income example: 1) Each spouse draws £10k each from ISAs = £20k tax-free 2) 2x *£6k withdrawals from GIAs = £12k tax-free 3) £20k withdrawal from bond = £20k no immediate tax = £52k / £4kpm *assume fund has doubled, so £3k gains in £6k withdrawal (allowance) Financial planning is about 'inputs and outputs' If you want more income, you need more in the pot Common challenges 1) Tax 2) Investment performance Biggest problem we see is inaction - tax allowances missed, less saved, more lost All compounding into greater pressure later #saas #sales #gtm

Financial planning is not a zero-sum game Vanguard's 'Adviser Alpha' research (2020) suggests the impact could be as much as 3%pa Even 1% pa, compounding over 30, 40, 50 years is life-changing 3 main drivers 1) Tax Two stages, tax NOW + tax LATER Now - during career, how you save to reduce the amount you lose Later - into retirement, drawing your income without costly mistakes Tax-free retirement is achievable Less tax = reduced risk of running out of money 2) Behavioural Just getting organised, planning and being intentional Invest regularly and with confidence Control emotions, do not overthink volatility 3) Asset allocation Most GTM professionals hold too much in cash - inflation destroys value Pension funds held in default funds = less growth Less growth = greater pressure to work longer and save more Software sales provides the opportunity to earn truly life-changing money But most elite ICs and leaders do not manage their financial planning effectively = more lost Earning is just the first step #saas #sales #gtm
