  • Another fantastic day in Co-Treetment's journey | 28th February 2025 Yesterday will go down as one of our best days at Co-Treetment as we were so fortunate to have a collection of wonderful people joining us at our field to help in planting a magnificent 500 trees. That means in total we now have 7,000 in the ground, near Thringstone, Leicestershire. Last Sunday armed with two ancient mowers, three ancient people, Simon Evans MBA, Darrell Taylor and Keith Cox we had prepared things. We had in affect grabbed a few hours to place all the canes in position to help with planting for the teams yesterday. So on Friday we were delighted to welcome lots of people, these different customers of Document Network Services Limited to the site to plant trees. We started reasonably early in the morning, with sausage cobs, bacon cobs, teas and coffees from the local pub, THE GEORGE AND DRAGON (THRINGSTONE) LIMITED. Just the fuel that everybody needed. Making our way to the field, we were excited to see such wonderful enthusiasm for the work that lay ahead. Everybody without fail worked hard from the moment they set onto the field (after the safety briefing and instructions along with a planting demonstration), and low and behold just shy of two hours later we had 500 new silver birch trees occupying the field, looking great. Thanks to our customers at Document Network Services Limited and their customers for being such great sports and getting stuck in with the planting, going above and beyond. We were amazed at the proficiency of the team, the fun they were having, and the excitement they obtained from planting. We are so lucky to have such wonderful customers that totally understand the importance of getting involved in their sustainability journeys, making it happen through investing their time, people and money in the activity. Thank you all. • Preparing for Friday 28th February 2025 To be able to achieve a successful planting day we have to plan meticulously, order the tree whips, the canes and the spirals. That's just a few clicks on the keyboard, but important ones. But today to get our field in fine fettle for 5 days time we needed to cut the grass to make it easier to plant, measure the field for the tree locations and populate the locations with canes as markers. The preparation of the field wasn't helped by the recent weather or some of our second hand equipment. We overcame the challenge, we always do, with a smile, a chuckle, a few choice words, but always a commitment to move forward. Armed with two ancient mowers, three ancient people, Simon Evans MBA, Darrell Taylor and Keith Cox we set about preparing things. Having grabbed a few hours to place all the canes in position to help with planting for the teams that are to join us on Friday. We are so lucky to have such wonderful customers that totally understand the importance of getting involved in their sustainability journeys, making it happen through investing their time, people and money in the activity. There’ll be 500 trees to plant; that’ll take us to 7,000 trees and we have many to sell if you’re interested. We are constantly advocating for planting trees to help our planet. But, let's break it down into 6 simple Pillars to explain why...👇🌍 💨 Air In urban environments, trees absorb pollutant gases like nitrogen oxides, ozone, and carbon monoxide, and sweep up particles like dust and smoke. 🦅 Biodiversity From young to middle-aged and old forests, a single tree can be home to hundreds of species of insects, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants. 🔥 Climate In cities, trees can reduce ambient temperatures by up to 8° Celsius. ⚕️ Health Trees help reduce stress and anxiety. What's more, shade provided by tree coverage helps protect our skin from the ever-increasing harshness of the sun. 🫴 Social Impact The forestry industry provides endless job opportunities from arborists to loggers and even researchers. 💧 Water Trees capture rainwater and reduce the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. Their roots also act like filters, removing pollutants. Want to learn more about the #6Pillars? 👉 https://shorturl.at/dguN5

  • Update on Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre and Co-Treetment collaboration | January 22nd 2025 As many of you know we have since 2022 had a collaboration with the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, whereby for every DCHC tree purchased £5.00 goes to the charity directly. This collaboration has led meant that EIGHT CHILDREN (2 IN 2022, 3 IN 2023 AND IN 2024) were able to go to Skegness for a well-deserved break of 5 days. That means 756 trees were purchased that created a fund of £3,780; these trees are absorbing 18,900 Kg of CO2 per year! Amazing! Recent News Announcements As many of you might have seen in the news recently, the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre trustees have taken the decision to pause holidays in 2025. This decision was taken so that a thorough strategy review could be done, with the plan to create an even stronger foundation to continue meeting the needs of children in Derbyshire who benefit so much from the service that are provided. This isn't the first time that the charity has had to pause holidays, as back in the late 1980s, when it transitioned from local authority funding to being fully self supporting, they had to halt operations for a little while. The charity is profoundly grateful to all those who have come forward offering their support as they take stock in 2025 of all their operations. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help raise funds, the link is below:- https://lnkd.in/gb8UeasN The goal of the 'Comeback Appeal' is to raise £150,000 to bring back our life-changing holidays to disadvantaged children in Derbyshire and spread joy and hope to even more children in 2026. There are other ways to help in fundraising such as the Derby Community Lottery; which was set up for a variety of Charites, all Derby based. It is an exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in Derby. The link is here:- https://lnkd.in/gJjQQpjw Newslinks We have provided a NewsLink to the BBC radio interview with the charity’s Chairperson, Michael Copestake for all of you which helps to explain the situation further. https://lnkd.in/gYzG3GHZ What About the DCHC Trees? Going forward we still will have trees available for purchase and if you do want to purchase some in 2025 then the funds raised will be put aside for use for children’s holidays in 2026. We have provided a link below for you that takes you to our website for purchases:- https://lnkd.in/ehSpDp6y We hope that you will join us in continuing to support the charity during these challenging times, whether that is through the Go Fund Me initiative or through more tree purchases. Co-Treetment Review of 2024 | 2nd January 2025 It's that time of year when we reflect on our previous years activities, what we did, how we did it, and how it links to our customers and followers. So without further ado, here's what the team at Co-Treetment achieved in 2024, and importantly at Co-Treetment we recognise that we have only been able to do this with the investment from our customers. Added an additional 3,000 trees to our forest for our customers. Retained our status as Carbon Negative company. Broadened our Ecosystem by adding 5 bee-hives which were managed by Lisa McKenzie and David McDowell. Funded FOUR MORE children’s holidays at the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre; EIGHT in total since the project’s inception in 2022. Created an ally partnership with The Uganda Environmental Conservationists Organization (UECO); planting 2,157 trees, visiting 23 schools and meeting 5,263 people. Held planting sessions with AMG Wealth Management, BOAL UK Ltd, Midland Lead Ltd, MacMartin and Gravity Digital teams. Increased the number of customers using our services by 10%. Increased our LinkedIn followers base to more than 1,550 people; a 25% increase over the course of the year. With 6,500 trees now planted the forest has absorbed an estimated 162.5 MT of CO2 from the atmosphere in 2024. Primarily we recognise our responsibility to help protect the planet. We are committed to minimising the impact our firm has on the environment and supporting those who are working to improve global environmental sustainability. One area that we are particularly proud of is our environmental-footprint strategy which seeks to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and waste across Co-Treetment operations as well as striving to strengthen our environmental practices. We will comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. We are extremely proud that Co-Treetment have moved from being Carbon Neutral (2022) and have been Carbon Negative since 2023. Key elements in calculating our emissions profile are shown below:- We only operate in the UK. We have no buildings or offices. We have no employees. We have no company cars. We all live approximately 25 miles from the field where we plant trees. We have planted 250 trees to offset our emissions since 2023 (against a requirement of 146 to be Carbon Neutral) making us Carbon Negative. We are proud to be making positive improvements to our planet, and to enable others to do so, whilst being Carbon Negative and we very much look forward to more customer engagements in 2025 and beyond. What a fantastic day in Co-Treetment's journey | 6th December 2024 The 6th December 2024 will go down as one of our best days at Co-Treetment as we were so fortunate to have great people joining us at our field to help in planting a magnificent 1,425 trees. That means in total we now have 6,000 in the ground, near Thringstone, Leicestershire. To be able to achieve this we had to plan meticulously, order the tree whips, the canes and the spirals. That's just a few clicks on the keyboard, but important ones. We needed to cut the grass to make it easier to plant, measure the field for the tree locations and populate the locations with canes as markers. The preparation of the field wasn't helped by the recent weather or some of our second hand equipment. We overcame the challenge, we always do, with a smile, a chuckle, a few choice words, but always a commitment to move forward. Thanks go to Alexander and Darrell Taylor for preparing the field on 30th November, without that we'd definitely have struggled. Then on Thursday 5th December Simon Evans MBA and Darrell Taylor grabbed a few hours to place all the canes in position to help with planting for the teams that were to join us on the following day. So on Friday we were delighted to welcome different customers to the site to plant trees. We started reasonably early in the morning and worked through with a break for lunch until 4pm. Through their team efforts and additional planting from the Co-Treetment team, by the end of Friday we had 1,425 new silver birch trees were occupying the field, looking great. Thanks to our customers at Gravity Digital (Sharon Stevens-Cash), MacMartin (Claire MacDonald) and Midland Lead Ltd (Francoise Derksen) for being such great sports and getting stuck in with the planting, going above and beyond. A definite competitive, and friendly spirit was on show, especially from the Gravity Digital and MacMartin team, team who had a similar, but definitely not identical number planters present. In the end only 1 tree separated them in terms of numbers, 137 and 136 respectively, which is all the more amazing given there were only 9 people involved in total. With Midland Lead Ltd arriving for planting later, and fielding a team of 30, buoyed up with mince pies, tea and coffee they managed to plant 1,038 trees before heading to the local hostelry for a well deserved buffet dinner. We are so lucky to have such wonderful customers that totally understand the importance of getting involved in their sustainability journeys, making it happen through investing their time, people and money in the activity. Thank you all. • Ally Post UGANDA ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATIONISTS ORGANIZATION | 29th November 2024 Good morning all from a cold winters day in Derbyshire. As you know Co-Treetment have an alliance with our friends in Uganda, namely Mugogo Mark and Kisaamo Emmanuel Solomon who we support via our knowledge exchange. As fellow beekeepers with David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell we loved their post today which explains the importance of not only bees, but also other pollinators. In the reshared post below you’ll see great information about the topics mentioned. If you’d like to see what a difference our allies are making then take a look at our website link below https://lnkd.in/egkd3PXt Simon Evans MBA Darrell Taylor Keith Cox #beesmeanhives #planetbeforeprofit #charity #trees #knowledgesharing

It's essential to recognize the vital role all pollinators play in our food system. This reality should resonate deeply in our daily lives, influencing our gardening practices and any activities that may harm our ecosystem and contribute to the decline of pollinator populations. It's time to take action! Click this link to learn more about how you can help save pollinators: 👇 https://lnkd.in/g_4srmd7

  • Part 14 - Update On Bees | David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell | 22nd November 2024 As our followers know, and have seen, at Co-Treetment we have been developing the apiary through 2024 with the help of David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell and Lisa McKenzie. We have posted a whole series of details relating to this, which we have captured below. Recently whilst the Co-Treetment team were up at the field, our Duke of Edinburgh student asked us about the bees. He was intrigued by the hives and wondered whether bees hibernate. We wondered if any of our followers wondered the same thing? What are the bees up to during winter? Well thanks to David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell we have been able to provide details based from his latest newsletter on the topic. As we say, everyday is a school day! Back in Autumn, we learnt that the Drone bees (males) were being ejected from the hives. The Queens were slowing down their egg laying and pollen is being stored. Gathering honey as a crop has ceased but the colonies continue to find nectar from the dwindling natural sources. And now we are in winter, and it's cold folk remember the question; "what do bees do in the winter...hibernate?" Well kinda. It is called Diapause. Diapause is a period of dormancy when the bodily activities slow down or stop. It is a genetically determined response to unfavourable environmental conditions, such as shorter days, colder temperatures or even lack of food. As the temperature drops, the bees huddle together to keep warm, beekeepers call it clustering. As the temperature drops further, the bees cluster tighter and tighter. There is a point at which the cluster can no long keep warm so they slow down their bodily activities. It is like hibernating except, as soon as the temperature rises, the bees become reanimated. It might only be warm enough to mooch around the hive or even warm enough to fly. Bees are programmed to fly when they can. It is entirely possible to have bees flying on Christmas day. David had picked the bee in the image attached, off the floor at an apiary. She was a bit wet and very cold. After a few minutes sitting on my finger she was warm enough to fly home. She obviously thought it was warm enough to venture out but the damp air cooled her. Like us, there is a point where her muscles are too cold to work. For more specifics about David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell please use the link provided here for his newsletter; he is without doubt an expert on bees, who is willing to share and help. https://lnkd.in/e2N6kVSv Thanks to everyone for your support. • Update from the field | Looking Good! Trees and Bees | 17th November 2024 Another Sunday and the weather was looking good, so Darrell Taylor and I headed off to the Co-Treetment field near Thringstone in Leicestershire. As everyone knows we really do take pride in maintaining our mini-forest, formerly known as a field! So now with 4,500 trees residing in the ground at our land, around 55% of our 1.07 hectares are full now, so we have room for around another 4,250 trees, or thereabouts. We are already looking at the layout of the land to fathom where to plant next; where to leave access corridors and how we work around the bee hives to ensure easy access, and to not disturb them. We were blown away to see what had happened since we began planting 4 years ago. Some trees sit at 6 metres (20ft) high in the trentbarton area; and there's a graduated step down as we move towards the gate that reflects the years of planting and the subsequent tree growth. We set about tidying up; focusing on checking the bee hives; the posts we had dividing the land; plaques and changing the tree guards on around 200 trees from black to clear. We had noticed a poor return on planting when using the black tree guards, our hypothesis being that the tree sees less light and heat in their crucial early growing days which stunts their growth. Of course none of our work is possible without our customers, and whilst some might only buy a few, some of our customers, individuals and businesses buy 100's of trees. Irrespective of the numbers purchased we do maintain the field for all trees so that the forest can remain as a lasting legacy for the future. We currently 9 area plots where there are batches of 100 trees or more belonging to single purchasers. The plots that we marked out during this time were:- AMG Wealth, Senior Partner Practice of St. James’s Place BOAL Extrusion UK Cosy Direct Dynomite Video Production Agency EmailOctopus P. Ducker Systems Ltd Rolls-Royce Simon Crane trentbarton We have of course a lot of trees planted, in fact it is 756 now, that support the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, which are dispersed amongst the various customer allocations. This is a tremendous number of trees that have so far helped to provide funds for 8 children to go to the holiday home in Skegness. Thanks again to each and every one of our customers, you make us what we are today; we will continue to be add more plaques as more customers purchase trees and reach the 100 mark! If you'd like to join our growing customer list then please feel free to visit our online shop - link shared below:- https://lnkd.in/ehSpDp6y Simon Evans MBA Darrell Taylor Keith Cox #carbonneutral #carbonnegative #environment #energy #solarenergy #water #change #team #onlyoneearth #sustainable #work #sustainabledevelopment #community #environment #future #trees #society #NFP #carbonemissions #sustainabilitymatters #planetbeforeprofit
