During October one of our colleagues Justin Foote completed an impressive challenge, walking 188 miles (7.2 marathons) in support of Prostate Cancer UK, raising more than £3000. This isn't the first challenge that Justin has completed for the charity. He has taken part in 13 events and raised more than £27,000 since September 2019. Justin said, "One of the highlights of my latest challenge was on 24th October 2024, when I completed a walk starting at the New Everton Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock to Anfield in memory of Ray Clemence (Liverpool & England Goalkeeper) who unfortunately passed away from this awful disease. From Anfield we continued to Goodison Park for pitch side photos, then finished back at Bramley Moore Dock." What an amazing achievement for the charity. Well done Justin. Prostate cancer in numbers: • Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men, more than 52,000 men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer every year on average – that's 144 men every day. • 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in their lifetime. • And the risk is even higher if you're black, with 1 in 4 men being diagnosed. • Around 490,000 men are living with and after Prostate Cancer. • It manly affects those over 50 and your risk increases with age. • One man dies every 45 minutes of Prostate Cancer. The earlier you find prostate cancer, the easier it is to treat so if you have any concerns contact your GP.

Proud of the contribution we're making towards these targets, which underline our commitment to industry decarbonisation.
We know the world must reach #NetZero no later than 2050, and companies have a crucial part to play. We're proud to announce our near-term and net-zero science-based targets have been approved by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Tackling #climatechange requires ambitious action from the construction sector. We're committed to taking a leading position in the low-carbon transition. Data centres are critical in a digitised world that needs to process masses of information. Demand for data centres is rapidly increasing and we have a proud record of delivering them safely and at the scale and pace our clients need. One of our UK data centre project leaders, Jake Shorrock, joined Building Magazine's roundtable on derisking data centre delivery with other industry experts, who gave their insights into the unique challenges and opportunities this sector brings. https://loom.ly/9FPbLHI

Crown House Technologies reposted this
Our Renewed Horizons cohort have successfully finished their first week of training, and what a week it's been! Taking learning from our flagship Building Opportunities Programme, Renewed Horizons is an employability programme tailored specifically to support prison leavers into long-term employment. This week participants have undertaken practical training with our CHtM colleagues at our facility based in Oldbury, as well as coaching to help them better understand what they want from their career, what drives them, how to identify personal triggers that have prevented long-term employment in the past and break unhelpful patterns. It's a person-centred #socialvalue programme intended to support sustainable employment and enrich lives, long-term. Congratulations to Matt Phillips who was recently awarded Commissioning Manager of the Year at the 2024 CSA Awards. The award considers commissioning managers who have made a clear and positive contribution to a technically challenging and/or commercially successful project in the last 24 months. Matt joined Crown House Technologies 22-years ago, starting as an HVAC engineering apprentice. Rising through the ranks to roles such as supervisor and mechanical project manager. In 2016 Matt transitioned to commissioning management and has since led teams on high-profile projects, including Jaguar Land Rover and Kings Cross developments. In 2023, he became a senior commissioning manager, leading a team on one of our data centre projects. He also earned his CSA CM2 Senior Commissioning Manager qualification. Crown House Technologies is committed to developing our emerging talent and many of our new commissioning managers joined our table on the evening of the event, making it a memorable experience for all. Well done Matt. Read more about the awards here: https://loom.ly/znQ0eWY

It was our pleasure to take part in the 2024 UK Passivhaus Conference last week delivering a masterclass on Passivhaus facades. The event was organised by the Passivhaus Trust and hosted by University of Oxford, Laing O'Rourke and partners at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities in Oxford. Owain Dobson, CHT's operations leader for the project shared the lessons learned in Passivhaus MEP solutions, geometric fit, selection of energy efficient components, complete thinking of how to create working designs that can be manufactured and solve the Passivhaus challenge.
Along with the University of Oxford and our partners, we were delighted to host the 2024 UK Passivhaus Conference last week at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities in Oxford. The two-day event included a Passivhaus masterclass, during which we shared our first-hand insights with 200 delegates, including how our digital build approach, coupled with modern methods of construction, helped simplify the delivery of Passivhaus solutions at scale. This was followed by an opportunity for guests to see the theory in practice around the site. A further 500 delegates attended the full conference, providing a second opportunity for a site tour. Sustainable, flexible, accessible spaces have been a core focus of the Centre for Humanities project. Early on the decision was made to build to Passivhaus standards, providing a progressive approach that will ultimately minimise energy requirements and limit its environmental impact for years to come. In fact, it is expected to be the world’s first Passivhaus concert hall and the largest Passivhaus building in the UK once it is completed. #Passivhaus #Construction #Decarbonisation #BuiltEnvironment #MMC

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to project leader, Paul Slade as he retires after 42 years’ service. Paul was 16 years old when he began his journey with Crown House in 1980. He started as an apprentice, picking up the company’s national apprentice of the year award. By age 19, he transitioned to a junior office-based engineer, focusing on running and managing projects. Throughout his career, Paul rose through the ranks, becoming an electrical engineer, senior electrical engineer, and eventually project leader. His responsibilities included ensuring the safe delivery of projects and developing his team. Paul cites North Staffs Hospital P21 maternity and oncology building, Manchester Airport Transformation Project, and Crossrail among his most memorable, largely because of their collaborative nature. Paul's leadership on these significant projects has set a high standard for others to follow. Paul's commitment to professional growth and his passion for mentoring others has left an indelible mark on our organisation. His advice to seize opportunities, maintain a work-life balance, and stay connected with contacts resonates deeply with many of us. As Paul begins to enjoy retirement and his many planned projects and adventures, we want to thank him for his dedication and for being an integral part of our success. We are proud to have had Paul as part of the Crown House family and wish him all the best in his retirement.

We recently held a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in support of the new Monklands Replacement Project at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. The aim of the day was for our #MEP team to provide an overview of the project, allowing potential supply chain partners to understand the contribution they might make. Colin O’Brien, Laing O'Rourke Operations Leader, South & Scotland said: “The event was an enormous success for CHt, our supply chain, potential partners, and the client team. The level of engagement and excitement for the project was evident with the 150+ attendees appreciating the opportunity to discuss how we can work together to deliver this major UK #healthcare project, and leave a positive legacy within the Lanarkshire community." Thanks to everyone that attended. New University Hospital Monklands, NHS Lanarkshire
