A nice loft survey at the former library in Lichfield earlier in the week. some interesting trip hazzards on the boardwalks. But a bonus to have those to ease access everywhere. We closed out a stormy week with a nice inspection of Shrewsbury Unitarian Church and some setting work in Stafford today. The only downside of setting out between storms is the sodden ground. Today was especially tricky, often sinking in boggy ground. Filled rigger boots doesn't happen often but all done and back to the ranch before the next storm front arrived. Have a great weekend.
It was a chilly start setting out in the fog this morning in Stafford but the sun was trying to burn through at 10am. This site had two topographical surveys prior to design work with both having shortcomings. One had no detail and just showed a massive foliage line around the site perimeter on a sloping site in two directions. I was staggered to see they thought that was acceptable to send to a client as a finished product. Over the years I have spent many hours slashing through thick undergrowth to cut sight lines for data collection and collected many cuts along the way. A drone-based LiDAR survey can make that much simpler, if done correctly, in conjunction with ground-based data collection. LiDAR can collect a lot of data in short order, penetrating through vegetation to reach the ground. There were large boundary discrepancies on this site and some level problems. This isn't always an issue but here the errors compromised the design of the site requiring redesign and on site adjustments.
Another few days of holiday cover for Stefan Engineering setting out by Grimsby. Another day of awful mobile coverage, which seems increasingly bad everywhere despite roaming sim - a solution that had been effective at minimising not spot. Starlink had to fill that gap last week and it looks increasingly likely it will be cover on site data needs going forwards.
