We are incredibly proud of this project and grateful to have made the shortlist for the RIBA Client of the Year Award 2024 in recognition of Derbyshire County Council as an exceptional client championing outstanding architecture! The shortlist is made up of four projects, recognising the crucial role of clients who commission and champion outstanding architecture. The winners will be announced at the Stirling Prize dinner on the 16th October. Good luck to the other shortlisted projects and a big well done so far to our team who continue to champion for a more inclusive, diverse, and caring approach in our designs and in our outreaching community efforts for those we design for. Curl la Tourelle Head Architecture has been shortlisted for the Social Value Architect of the Year Award. Earlier this year BD announced all the architects who made it on to the shortlists for our prestigious annual Architect of the Year Awards. Now we are shining the spotlight on each category in turn and publishing a selection of the images that impressed the judges. The practice cites ‘tackling inequality through design’ as being at the heart of its approach. Alfreton Park Community Special School in Derbyshire offers a secure, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. Intensive community engagement informed both Your Bruce Grove, a streets and spaces improvement project in Tottenham, and the Hodges Gap Pavilion in Margate, Kent. Colourful teaching wings which, in profile resemble birds in flight, are planned in an informal arrangement with the intention of de- institutionalising the school environment. The layout promotes a calm, light-filled, and fun environment with plentiful opportunities for play! Timber-lined classrooms are bright and beautiful with large windows affording views of the tree-lined park. The project included meaningful involvement throughout with pupils and staff, resulting in a joyful school.
