Tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness.
About us
For over 50 years Cyrenians has been tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness. Our values-led, relationship-based approach to delivering our services means we are able to offer person-centred support to those in need of our help. By reacting to both the consequences of homelessness and working to prevent homelessness occurring in the first instance, we are proud of our history of delivering life-changing support to those in our community. Cyrenians is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), charity number SC011502.

This winter, we are proud to be working with and supported by Fort Kinnaird to help tackle the impact of social isolation in our community. If you're heading out for your shop between now and 20 December, post a card at our special postbox and we'll deliver it to someone in need of a little light this festive season. "I felt like it was my fault and was always trying to do the right things to avoid an argument. I had left before, but always ended up going back. At first, I went to friend’s houses and sleep in spare rooms or sofas. But I could tell that I was becoming a burden... Once, my ex turned up on the doorstop and tried to fight my friend’s husband. I knew then that I couldn’t go back to their house and soon enough I stopped hearing from them all together. That’s what he was good at... isolating me, making it so I had nowhere else to go. I was so scared, I felt trapped. Then one day I packed a bag while he was out and left. I didn’t take my keys or anything important, nothing he could try and come back for..." Winter is dark enough. Your gift will offer care, community and hope to someone like Claire who has been struggling for too long - hear her story and donate to our winter Appeal here: https://buff.ly/4g58P5U #WinterAppeal

Winter is dark enough... With a desperate shortage of suitable housing for people in crisis in Edinburgh, and even emergency accommodation in hotels and B&B’s hard to come by, people like Claire face impossible choices. Responding to the publication of the latest homelessness death stats today by The Scottish Government our Director of Services emphasises the importance of homelessness prevention and how it could save lives. We talk in more detail at The Scotsman here: https://buff.ly/4i8Q8A6 [IMG: An image of Amy Hutton, Director of Services and text that reads: "242 people died while homeless in Scotland last year – nearly half of which were due to ‘external causes’ including assault, suicide and drug overdoses. All of these things can be prevented. Every one of these deaths is a tragedy that is felt deeply by the people who loved them and the frontline staff working in homelessness services who are experiencing loss far too often. The homelessness system needs to get better at supporting people before they become so vulnerable their lives are at risk."]

Thanks to all the guests who joined our latest Syrian Supper club! Hear about all our upcoming events here: https://lnkd.in/gWss7eJd
We are spoilt for choice in Edinburgh with fabulous restaurants and food outlets but sometimes, it’s good to leave your comfort zone and try something new. Thanks to friends at Cyrenians , I did just that at their monthly Syrian Supper Club. Lots of interesting dishes to taste and good company around the table. Thank you Sophie Bell Rosie Stephen Laura van der Hoeven . A great idea for friends and/or colleagues to get together and contribute to a worthwhile cause to boot.

Hana fled her home with her two children escaping domestic violence - then she found herself in unsafe and unclean temporary accommodation with her kids... It just wasn’t a place that they could recover from experiencing abuse. But then Hana came to Cyrenians and got involved with the WiSH (Women in Safe Homes) Project which has supported her into a new flat to call home... "Our new home is clean and safe. When I was in the shelter, I felt like I’d done something wrong and that I must have no worth... but now I really feel that I am supported by people not only materially but also mentally. Now we’ve got a chance to feel happiness and laugh – and even think about a happy future." Read her story and learn more about the WiSH Project here: https://buff.ly/4i27QoX
