About us
Registered July 2020, Daring to Dream supports the emotional health of the 1.2 million adults in Wales living with physical illness by: 1. Raising awareness of need for support of emotional health for those living with physical illness 2. Creating comforting, interior-designed non-clinical, safe spaces to talk in hospitals (Quiet Rooms, Relatives’ Rooms, Ward Day Rooms) for those tough conversations when people are at their most vulnerable. 3. Facilitating wellbeing services to support emotional health e.g. live music in hospital wards and via Lleswyl (our free live streamed wellbeing festival) Good emotional health supports better recovery from illness - we focus on emotional health to reduce mental health risk.

https://lnkd.in/e_djnNxe Please spread the word and help us set up a fabulous core team of professional musicians for this and other projects! Diolch!
Daring to Dream is seeking to contract #professionalmusicians to lead live musical afternoons in the #CarefortheElderly wards (COTE) and #Dementia wards at #PrincessofWalesHospital #Bridgend. Our pilot project in summer 2024 created such joy for patients, their families and staff who care for them. Feedback from ward managers relating to our pilot has been fantastic and has included: ‘It has been so special to provide the patients, who are in hospital for long periods, with the musicians. They have laughed, sung, and truly enjoyed the experience – we hope that it can continue!’ ‘The joy music brings to our patients – its priceless.’ We seek professional musicians, able to work in pairs, to have empathy with the patients and engage with them well. Our feedback confirms the success of 'singalongs' to Elvis, the Beatles and more!! Please contact me directly ASAP so that we can identify a musician network to call upon for this and other projects. (DM or via daringtodream@learningpathways.info ) We are very keen to restart the musical afternoons in PoW in January 2025. I also want to give a big shout out to Cobalt HR who have given this important project generous support. https://lnkd.in/e9-zXzus John Chown Bridgend Business Forum Jane Gebbie Paul Stepczak 🏴🏴☠️Martin Downes FRSA Kerry Chown, MSc FCIPD Linda James MBE Katie Killoran Hayley Dunne martin brown Jay Ball Bridgend Ford Hamed Amiri Hessam Amiri Wendy Edwards

Making Space to talk about Emotional Health “Our emotional response to illness is very human – it is NOT a mental health issue. However, if we don’t talk about our human emotional responses – that may lead to a mental health condition on top of the physical illness” was one of my headline statements last week. This is a really huge agenda because about half the adults in Wales (that’s 1.2 million of us) live with at least one longstanding illness. Each one of us is actively engaged with a huge amount (and very much appreciated) NHS clinical care, support and resources. Each one of us is also an individual grappling not just with our physical symptoms, medical treatments, the daily impact on our life but also with the regular whirlwinds of emotion arising from our diagnosis, treatments or condition. Wednesday’s event outlined the compelling narrative of why addressing emotional health is significant in managing physical illness and why our mission at Daring to Dream matters so much. Delighted that #SarahMurphyMS, Minister for Mental Health & Wellbeing was able to join us and open our event. Huge thanks too to all the wonderful contributors – patients, their family members and clinical staff for their conversation about emotional health relating to their personal lived experiences. To Tenovus Cancer Care / Gofal Canser Tenovus and your #SingWithUs choir, thank you so much! Also to Sian Lloyd LLB – such a great job – thank you. Thank you also to Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru | Wales Millennium Centre for all your support too. Proper thanks and a lot more will be posted; I am sorry for the delay but I am currently in need of some time to recuperate from some personal health stuff. Final call for our event 'Making Space to talk about Emotional Health' at the Cabaret Studio, Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru | Wales Millennium Centre on Wednesday 23rd October from 09:30. Event starts 10:00 and closes 11:35. Please note: Entry is via the CABARET door at the south side of WMC near the Senedd/Pierhead We are delighted that #SarahMurphyMS, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing will be joining us and opening our event. The briefing is focusing on emotional (rather than mental) health and its significant role in recovery from health crises and good self-management of chronic illness. Shining a light on emotional health to enable recovery and assist ‘living well with illness’, has important potential to contribute to reducing mental health risk. This is an approach that could have significant positive impact not only for the 1.2 adults in Wales living with physical illness, but also for their families and carers, as well as for NHS Wales itself. Hosted by Sian Lloyd LLB, we are delighted that we are also joined by one of the ‘Sing With Us’ Choirs from Tenovus Cancer Care / Gofal Canser Tenovus, look forward to a keynote speech by Barbara Chidgey (Founder and Chair of Daring to Dream). We have a number of wonderful guests with whom Siân will be in conversation. They are all living with illness, handling diagnosis and treatment, or are family members living alongside their loved one dealing with illness or they are from clinical teams, caring for those living with illness. Our conversation will explore their experiences of the emotional impact of physical illness. We look forward to concluding our morning by announcing the proposed Line-Up for Lleswyl 2025.
