I have posted before about hiring and recruitment. This is not one of those posts. We would love one day to build an in-house coding university, but until that day comes, we can make this offer to people starting out.

I'm coming up to my year's anniversary of being a freelancing 'solopreneur'.
Here's what I've learned.
💚 Every day is a school day. You constantly learn as you try and adapt and evolve your strategy to succeed and win new business. Learn from failure, learn from success, learn from applying yourself. Take ownership of that.
🤦♂️ Tax returns are hard. Accountants are your friend. Find a good one.
💚 Knowledge is like compound interest - in accumulates exponentially. You learn as you go on. Fully-formed ideas can emerge from the fog cloud of confusion if you keep pushing into that fog with a desire to succeed.
🤦♂️ Time is your enemy - and that horrible expression 'time is money' is sadly very true. Here's another one... Carpe Diem or 'seize the day'. Don't wallow, keep going.
💚 You get to work with WHO you want, on WHAT you want, and you don't need to feel guilty about it. I am so proud to work with everyone at DataStudio.Tech and iota-ML and what we've been achieving together every day!
🤦♂️ Distraction is a constant menace. Stay focused.
💚 NOTHING beats the thrill of closing your own deals.
🤦♂️ Everything is on your shoulders. If something goes awry, you have to own it. Pronto! Then you have to bounce back and put the challenge out of your mind... don't let it capture your mood. Resilience is critical.
💚 Your network is your lifeline. ASK FOR HELP. Actively seek to stand on the shoulders of others, you'll be surprised how many will help you succeed, but be ready to do the same to freshman solopreneurs in return! (Thank you John Conway for being a rigorous, critical friend and mentor in my journey)
🤦♂️ Make time for your family and loved ones. Listen to their needs. You became a solopreneur for a reason - you can take some hours off to play with the kids or cook tea! (I haven't been great at this - props to my amazing wife Tanya M. 👩❤️👨 )
💚 You have an opportunity to take care of yourself physically and mentally. Take time to exercise and go for walks. It pays you back in dividends.
Finally...
🤔 Never overestimate the knowledge or adaptability of your buyer - change is hard and water always flows the easiest way (the one it knows, the channel it has already carved!). If you make it too difficult to buy what you are selling, people will go elsewhere (just like you do).
🤔 Collect case studies and testimonials. Keep focussed on OUTCOMES of what you do. Become an expert at summarising your 'greatest hits' (channel Elton John at Glastonbury 🤣)
🚵♂️ Finally... keep going! The journey may be hard but it really is worth it. Even if you throw in the towel at the end (hopefully not but hey, life happens!) you will discover so much about yourself.
