It was great to meet a vibrant Snowflake community at the #Snowflake #BUILD25 event in London this Tuesday. Some highlights from that day: 💡 Great feedback from the participants on the current development priorities and the Snowflake roadmap (keynote by Erwin van Laar). 💡 The private preview announcement and the live demo (by Dash DesAI) of #CortexAI using the #DeepSeek-R1 model surprised some people. Not really surprising, but simply further proof of how quickly popular #LLMs can be integrated into Snowflake's "Model Zoo" and operated in a secure environment. DeepSeek will soon appear in the already impressive overview of Cortex LLM functions available in Snowflake: https://lnkd.in/eu4ZC2j9 💡 The hands-on workshop organized by the DataOps.live team (led by Guy Adams, Thomas Steinborn & team) was pretty cool: participants were able to experience first-hand the AI-supported programming of a #Streamlit app and a significantly increased developer productivity when coding a more complex Snowpark Container Services (#SPCS) application. After the keynote and customer speeches, my colleague Ravi Bhatta MBA and I presented cool new Snowflake capabilities in our talk: 💡 One of the most commonly asked feature are #Storage #Lifecycle policies. They will make it easier for you to optimize storage costs and also meet legal (GDPR) requirements – this feature is now available in private preview. There will be two types of policies: #ExpirationPolicies will automatically delete the rows based on the policy you define and apply on a table. #ArchivalPolicies will select rows and move them to cold storage tier. 💡 Another key topic was #DataIngestion into Apache #Iceberg tables using Snowflake, with the following key takeaway: When you have the same familiar Snowflake ingestion interfaces (#Snowpipe, #SnowpipeStreaming, COPY command) for both Snowflake standard and Apache Iceberg tables, it makes creating or updating data engineering pipelines extremely simple. All you have to consider is your destination table type and a few options specific to configuring your Iceberg table.
