Thermal imaging is a useful tool when investigating dampness. Water stains and tide marks provide obvious evidence of a previous leak, but the thermal camera shows that the plasterboard has not dried out yet. Caused by a leaking compression fitting in the bathroom above. Image from my own kitchen taken 24hrs after I fixed the leak.

Building surveys combining traditional inspection methods with the latest drone technology
About us
We provide expert and impartial surveying services using an innovative blend of traditional inspection methods and drone technology to produce accurate condition reports for residential and commercial clients. Our surveys are carried out by an Associate Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) who is also qualified in Conservation of Masonry. Our drone pilots are certified and insured to fly drones in built-up areas under an Operational Authorisation issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Stoneworks has been surveying buildings and providing advice for over 10 years. Clients benefit from our extensive expertise gained over 35 years in historic buildings, materials, and practical trade skills. Our location in Livingston West Lothian places us within easy reach of most areas of Central Scotland. We regularly work in the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, and Fife areas, but our work often takes us much further north and south.

Summer is almost over (I must have blinked and missed it 😀). Winter is just around the corner so it's a good time to think about having a survey carried out. We combine traditional survey methods with the latest drone technology allowing us to identify problems that would otherwise be missed due to a lack of safe access. We survey detached and semi-detached houses, tenements, ecclesiastical and commercial buildings.

We've been back in Edinburgh to carry out a Home Buyer survey of a traditional building in Colinton. Here our drone is looking northeast towards Holy Corner with the Church Hill Theatre in the right-hand corner. Which got me thinking about my previous career and the stone carvings my workshop supplied for a restoration phase of the theatre back in 1992. Next thing I know I'm digging out the old 6x4 prints to scan. 😀

We recently enjoyed a rare opportunity to deploy our drone to carry out interior survey work at St. Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. The lack of GPS assistance, visual positioning and disabled obstacle avoidance systems normally used to maintain stability resulted in a particularly challenging experience! View other short videos on our YouTube channel. Make sure to turn on HD in the quality settings. 😀 https://lnkd.in/edaXqfde

Castle Semple Collegiate Church near to Castle Semple Loch a few miles north of the village of Lochwinnoch. This late Gothic church was built in 1504 by John, Lord Sempill to serve his nearby castle. Sempill was killed fighting the English at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, and his son had the east end of the church extended to accommodate his father’s tomb. The building is maintained by Historic Environment Scotland.

The granite city in the sunshine today for a drone roof survey. Have done a fair bit of travelling over the last few weeks. Hereford, Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow, Dumbarton, Lochwinnoch, Aberdeen. Clocking up lots of flight time on our drones! Supplying architects, surveyors, estate agents, property management agents, and contractors with drone images for their condition surveys.

Proud to present our latest artwork. We call it 'Flight'. 😀 No its not a random collection of different coloured scribbles, but the flight lines of our drone during a tenement survey on a blustery day in Edinburgh. Lots of GPS positional corrections by the Mini 3 Pro to cope with the gusting wind. Don't try this at home, I'm a professional !!
