Helping people in the community stay healthy and feel better, since 1975

About us

Day Lewis Pharmacy is a national award-winning community pharmacy retailer with a mission to help people in the community to “stay healthy and feel better”. One of the largest independent retail pharmacy chains in Europe, Day Lewis pharmacy was founded by Kirit Patel MBE and his brother JC Patel in 1975. It is a family owned business that consists of over 270 pharmacies in the UK today. With patients being the true heart of the business, Day Lewis pharmacies can be found not only in local communities but also in high streets and health centres. Being the winner of C+D’s “Best Places to Work in Community Pharmacy 2015”, we believe that the success of Day Lewis can largely be attributed to our colleagues and organisational culture. With a strong set of core values, we are looking to work with people who will embrace our caring family culture; look after our customers; be disciplined and professional; seek to be different through innovation; reward, recognise and empower each other and last but certainly not least, have fun in the workplace.

Q: You have a stock vial of diclofenac (75 mg in 3 mL) and need to draw up a dose of 50 mg for your patient. How many mLs should you draw up to give this dose? Currently, failing the calculations exam can have severe consequences—years of study, including A-Levels, a four-year degree, and a pre-registration year, could all be wasted if a trainee doesn’t pass (even with three attempts) - most students only start the MPharm course to become a pharmacist! Thankfully, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is now considering removing or separating the calculations paper, instead assessing competence within pharmacy degrees. This is a welcome and much-needed change, ensuring students get the right support and preparation throughout their education. At Day Lewis Pharmacy, we train about 70 trainee pharmacists every year; this proposal would massively support each one of them, taking away the stress whilst they are trying to complete experiential learning. If you agree, please share and support this within your networks! A: (50mg/75mg) x 3 = 2ml

We had a great day filming yesterday with ITV News West Country BBC Spotlight and Hits Radio Cornwall celebrating the great work of community pharmacists. Since January 2021 the Walk in Consultation Service has seen more than 38,000 patient consultations, resulting in more than 500 unnecessary trips to the emergency department being avoided. WICS was the successful pilot for Pharmacy First, which has just celebrated its first anniversary and supports the treatment of 7 common conditions, including... • Earache (age 1 to 17) • Sinusitis (age 12 and over) • Sore throat (age 5 and over) • Infected insect bite • Impetigo, a skin infection • Shingles (age 18 and over) • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women (age 16 to 64) Both initiatives were introduced to enable safe and accessible healthcare, by allowing patients to receive treatment for minor ailments directly from community pharmacies without needing a GP appointment. • Exciting news! Rosie McDermott, our Regional Manager for the Southwest, was featured on BBC News discussing the NHS Pharmacy First service at our Falmouth, Cornwall pharmacy!   This incredible initiative has successfully treated seven common conditions and helped prevent over 500 unnecessary trips to emergency departments in just one year! However, amidst this success, pharmacies across the UK face challenges, with many struggling due to funding that hasn’t increased in a decade. Despite these hurdles, we’re proud to play a vital role in easing pressures on the NHS.   During the BBC interview, Rosie McDermott shared: “It takes the pressure completely off 111 and the GP surgeries. We have fantastic relationships with the GPs, and they’re sending every patient they can to us because you know how difficult it is to get an appointment to see the doctor.”   Watch the full BBC interview to learn more about this impactful service and how pharmacies are making a difference in their communities! 😊   #NHS #CommunityPharmacy #Pharmacy #BBC #Falmouth #Cornwall

  • This week, our Regional Support Managers and Regional Managers gathered for a Training Day at our Support Office in Croydon! 😊 Regional Support Manager, Hannah Tearall, shares: “It’s been a fantastic couple of days connecting with peers from across the country. We’ve received valuable insights into the Joint Venture scheme and how it will benefit our partners. We also had a great refresher on the new Weight Loss Service and how it can have a significantly positive impact on patients, the community, and the NHS. One of the highlights was seeing the Original Pack Dispensing Hub in full operation. This system has already made a remarkable difference to our pharmacy teams with prescriptions, freeing up time so they can offer more services to our patients.” At Day Lewis, we’re committed to investing in the growth of our colleagues and we recognise that training is essential for driving business success. 🚀 If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a business that invests in its people, why not join the Day Lewis family?
