dCS Lina & Varèse: a shared DNA In our recent Deep Dive series, we explored the design innovations and unique features that drive the Lina Network DAC’s award-winning performance. Some of these innovations - such as a first-of-its kind flex-rigid circuit board, and solid billet aluminium chassis - came from the extensive R&D work that informed our new system, dCS Varèse. As a result, there are several commonalities between Varèse and Lina - and both benefit from intensive projects undertaken as part of our efforts to advance the state-of-the-art in digital audio. After it was over and the music stopped, I sat there in silence for about three minutes. That was a first for me. I was thinking about what I’d just heard. It was like a live performance at The Audio Salon. As if I was just waiting for the band to start the next track. Feeling the vibe of acoustic music, I put on Gary Karr’s Bass Virtuoso (HDAD 24/192). Again, it was like Karr was playing right in front of me, mainly in the left channel with piano on the right. I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times, but this time I could hear his double bass like never before. All of it. Every individual string E1, A1, D2 and G2 and the entire body of the instrument.
