We were delighted to welcome the Masonic Charitable Foundation at our Deaf Choices UK offices to receive a cheque for £15,000. The Foundation have supported us in the past and we are as ever, extremely grateful to know that they value the work that we are doing. We were able to show them some of our new Nan-in-a-Van resources for schools and families with a deaf child. #deafchoicesuk #deafcommunity #cuedspeech

We support parents of deaf children to make the best choices for Language, Literacy and Communication.
About us
Welcome to Deaf Choices UK. Our name reflects our approach. We support parents of deaf children to make the best choices for Language, Literacy and Communication. We believe that every deaf child and every family has a unique set of needs and DCUK is here to help you to navigate and explore the choices that are available to you, so that you can make an informed choice. After 45 years of operating nationwide as Cued Speech UK, we have rebranded to Deaf Choices UK, registered 6th December 2023. We have changed our name to reflect our philosophy and ethos. We are here to support parents of a deaf child (of which 90% of parents are hearing) to understand, embrace and learn how to best meet the unique needs of their deaf child. Deaf Choices UK is the only charity in the UK that provide training in Cued Speech.

Leeds Marathon ✅ Not even remotely close to the run I had planned… The heat really threw a spanner in the works and I hit the deck at mile 18 dehydrated and delirious. It looked like the race was over for me but with the unwavering support and belief from my partner, Hannah Kallend, I rehydrated and refueled in the shade and my friend walked the remaining 8 miles in with me to make sure I finished. The support in Leeds was incredible and it didn’t matter if you were running, walking or crawling. Thousands came out in droves to offer sweets and drinks, DJ, sing, play drums and bagpipes, and cheer on strangers encouraging them as friends. We smashed our target and raised £680 for Deaf Choices UK so I couldn’t be happier! Thanks again to all who donated ❤️ #leedsmarathon #leeds #deafchoicesuk #dcuk

🙌 Did you see us on ITV News last night? Reporters followed our Lead Choices Advisor, Kathy Kenny, as she showcased our fantastic new Cued Speech eBooks and AI avatar to teach a class of deaf children phonics. Our 10 eBook collection and visual aid avatar is unlike anything in the UK education system, allowing deaf children to see the sounds that they can’t hear, enabling them to progress at the same rate as their peers. A truly lifechanging package that we couldn’t be more proud of! The perfect end to #deafawarenessweek #deafchoicesuk #DCUK #cuedspeech #deafawareness

Amazing gesture from Newcastle United Football Club's Dan Burn After meeting with deaf fans before the game, where he learnt some British Sign Language, he then signed "love the fans" - fulfilling his promise to the young fans. #audpeeps #inclusivity

🔒 Locked in! After a busy Bank Holiday celebrating with friends, enjoying the sun and a few nice drinks... The Tuesday morning reflection is that I am running the Leeds Marathon in a little over a month and it's time to get my act together. Inspired by the incredible work Deaf Choices UK do and motivated by my Spotify playlist, I'll be running/walking/crawling over 26 hilly miles in this city that has been my home for the past 10 years 🏃♂️ All money raised will go towards directly helping more deaf children in the UK have the confidence and support they need to go on and be great in life. Whether that is through educational Software in schools teaching Cued Speech, 1 on 1s at home aiding literacy and language, or fun family events! Every £ donated really will make a huge difference. The link to do so is below: https://gofund.me/840a3a23 Donate some money so I can't back out... 😁 (and don't offer me a pint for the next month) #LeedsMarathon #DeafChoicesUK #DeafAwareness #CuedSpeech #BSL

"Deafness is invisible, but the Deaf community is not!" Visiting Leeds City Museum at the weekend, it was a pleasure to see an exhibition from the Deaf Arts Forum. Research shows that there are at least 50,000 Deaf children in the UK. This inclusive and intimate section shared personal experiences and reflections of Deaf people through a series of short films and interviews looking at topics including deaf awareness, identity, culture, community and technology. This type of representation is imperative in empowering the next generation of Deaf individuals and showcasing these stories in the City's most prestigious museum does exactly that... It's no surprise that Leeds has just won The Sunday Times Best Place to Live in the North Award! 🏆 #deafawareness #deafcommunity #audiology #deafpride #leeds #representation

Celebrating International Cochlear Implant Day! 🦻 Today is a day to celebrate the incredible technology that grants the gift of hearing to thousands around the world. Imagine hearing a loved one's voice clearly for the first time, enjoying the beauty of music, or simply having the confidence to engage in everyday conversations. Cochlear implants make these experiences possible for individuals with severe hearing loss, transforming their lives in remarkable ways. Let's use this day to: Celebrate the individuals: Share stories of those who benefit from cochlear implants, their journeys, and the joys they experience through regained hearing. Honour the pioneers: Recognise the dedication of researchers, doctors, and audiologists who work tirelessly to develop and improve this life-changing technology. Advocate for access: Raise awareness about the importance of making cochlear implants and ongoing support readily available to those who need them. #internationalcochlearimplantday #deafchoicesuk #deafawareness
