HORIBA MIRA, a state-of-the-art vehicle technology developer, were one of five projects to be awarded Phase 1 and Phase 2 funding from the Autonomous Last Mile Re-Supply, a Innovate UK Contracts for Innovation competition funded by the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA). The competition award enabled HORIBA MIRA to introduce testing and market surveying to identify emerging technologies and logistics solutions to explore how to better improve and automate existing logistics operations in supplying the battlefield. As a result of this market exploration, the Phase 2 funding gave HORIBA MIRA the opportunity to develop a new autonomous software technology for their existing Viking UGV, which successfully trialled with DASA/DSTL (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory) and resulted in a £2.3m order for three Viking UGVs for the Ministry of Defence.
