Structural and Civil Engineers with a difference | Optimising every stage of your project delivery

About us

Design4Structures is an award-winning Engineering and Construction Modelling Consultancy. With Teams based in London, The Midlands and Greece, we have the unique capability to deliver projects from RIBA Stages 0-5. We provide clients with design-led and data-driven solutions, which enable them to manufacture and construct with confidence. Services include Structural, Civil Infrastructure and Construction Engineering, plus Construction Modelling to a fabrication and manufacturing level of detail. Our design capabilities include; hot rolled structures, reinforced concrete, offsite modular volumetric, LGSF and architectural metalwork. We work on both a national and global scale, across sectors which include commercial, residential, leisure, health and education. Our mission is to take greater responsibility and de-risk project delivery, through better co-ordinated design, earlier in the construction workflow. We find solutions that enable clients to construct more efficiently, make better procurement decisions, and reduce costs, whilst achieving more sustainable outcomes.

  • Earlier this year Trimble Tekla UK approached D4S to produce a case study, that would focus on the power of its software and how it enables us to maximise our integration of Engineering and Detailing in-house. You can watch the full edit here: https://lnkd.in/edswRPfH We discuss how we uniquely take greater responsibility during the design phase, which means our clients...whether that's the developer, contractor or manufacturer...can achieve more accurate planning of materials, timescales, cost and resource, with risk around decisions removed as far as possible. #tekla #teklastructures #trimbleconnect #collaboration #integration #structuralengineering #civilengineering

  • Since the end of 2024, we've been supporting Rollalong Ltd, RCKa and Wates Group, with a crucial project, that explores modular solutions for tackling both London’s housing crisis and the wider UK’s need for quality, affordable homes.   Last week, at the New Homes in New Ways Summit, a modular home prototype was unveiled outside the Building Centre in London. This two-bedroom, four-person apartment has been designed for efficiency, with the entire process from design to manufacturing and installation taking just two months. Our offsite team provided the engineering design and detailing to ensure the structural integrity and functionality of the modular pod. Beyond technical innovation, a wider project (led by Rollalong and Wates) is also exploring the legislative and policy changes needed to accelerate access to housing for those who need it most. 👏 great work from everyone involved - we're excited to see how the entire initiative evolves! • Celebrating a D4S decade – from Apprentice to Senior Technician! With lots of posts currently doing the rounds about National Apprenticeship Week, it seems a perfect time to celebrate the achievements of three of our own. Tom Glover, Shaun Middleton and Tyler Colahan, all started as digital engineering apprentices with us 10 years ago, as part of what, back then, was our very own training academy (Cadcoe, and now T3 Training & Development). Today they are key members of the D4S team: > Tom is one of our in-house Tekla Development specialists > Shaun is an offsite technician, playing a big part in developing this service area and the wider team > Tyler leads on projects within our structures team. They have all worked on our most high-profile projects to-date, including Hong Kong Airport and Lucent W1 in London. They play an integral role in using their skills to support and develop others and we feel incredibly proud and lucky to still have them onboard after all these years. Cheers to 10 years Tom, Shaun and Tyler. Here’s to your next D4S decade! #skillsforlife #NAW2025

  • When engineers and detailers work together… that’s when the magic really happens! This approach is the foundation of what we do. The benefits are clear for clients, architects, contractors, and developers who adopt technical design and detailing early in their project workflows. By bringing these stages forward, we can achieve: > A coordinated design from the start reducing clashes and streamlining construction and manufacturing. > Structured data supporting better procurement planning and cost control. > Early identification of constructability issues, minimising delays and unexpected costs. > Sustainability built into the scheme from the outset, optimising materials and meeting environmental standards. > Simplification of regulatory compliance, ensuring the information needed for the Building Safety Act is captured and maintained. > Faster project delivery by resolving issues early, allowing the project to move forward more efficiently. What do you think about bringing technical design earlier into the process? How do you set up project success from the start? #structuralengineer #RIBA #construction #developer

  • As we step into week 3 of 2025, we are highlighting the great work our client, Hill Group UK, is doing to tackle homelessness through 'Foundation 200' - an initiative launched to pledge the design, construction and donation of 200 modular homes to homeless charities here in the UK. The ‘SoloHaus’ was developed as part of the solution, fully furnished, single-person homes with everything needed for comfortable living. The range has now expanded to accommodate two people and even families when needed. As part of our portfolio of work for Hill Group last year, our structures team supported with the foundation designs, for the latest SoloHaus installation in Harlow, Essex. UK statistics show that more than 320,000 people are homeless in this country. We are proud to be involved with initiatives like SoloHaus, and to work with companies like Hill Group who are leading the way and doing their part to help make a difference 👏 👏 👏 #homelessness #offsite #modularvolumetric #modularconstruction

  • As 2024 comes to a close, our team had the privilege of making a donation to one of our local food banks - Telford Crisis Support, an initiative run entirely by volunteers. Together, we raised £300 to buy essential supplies, helping support families across Telford during the festive season. A big thank you to our incredible team, from across all locations, for their contributions and kindness - and a special thank you to the volunteers who are making a real difference within our community. To our partners, clients, and friends - thank you for being part of our journey this year. It’s been fantastic working alongside you to deliver so many great project outcomes. Wishing you all a restful break and looking forward to more of the same in 2025!

  • Introducing Gustaf!   We're very happy to welcome Gustaf Granstrom-Steer as a new Associate Director, who joined the team at the end of November. With extensive experience from his previous roles at Ramboll and Heyne Tillet Steel, Gustaf is looking forward to contributing towards our continued growth.   In his new position, he will lead teams while playing a vital role in educating our clients and the wider industry on the immense value of fully-coordinated design processes and early engagement with structural engineers. His particular expertise in timber design, as well as a strong skill set for refurbishment and retrofit projects, will be a great asset to D4S and our partners.   Welcome aboard, Gustaf - we are all really looking forward to working with you 🙌 #structuralengineer #timber #retrofit #refurbishment

  • Who else has workplace Christmas traditions? One of ours is gingerbread! Every year, Kristyna, one of our talented structural engineers for offsite projects, shares beautifully decorated gingerbread with the entire team. It’s a tradition inspired by her Czech roots, and there’s always a ‘D4S’ branded biscuit with the year included. It’s a meaningful (and delicious!) gesture that brings everyone together. Thank you, Kristyna, for bringing a bit of festive cheer to the office each year! #christmas #workplacetraditions
