On the sidelines of the GPCA’s recent investors meeting in London and to welcome the festive season, our CEO Runa Alam hosted the 16th Annual dinner for women in private capital, in partnership with PEWIN - Private Equity Women Investor Network the leading global association for senior women in private capital. The event brought together over 50+ female leaders and executives in private capital from across the globe - fostering a lively and insightful conversation on recent events and trends that could influence the private capital industry. The conversations touched on relevant topics including short term and long-term macroeconomic trends and the impact of geopolitical events on private capital investments. Despite the continuous changes in global and regional macroeconomics and geopolitical landscape, the group expressed optimism about the resilience of private capital managers in successfully navigating these changes and – sometimes turning them into opportunities. The highlights of the evening included the presence of Kelly Williams founding chair of PEWIN, Ana Maria Harrison London co-chair of PEWIN and Partner at Adams Street Partners, Cate Ambrose CEO and Board Member at GPCA Global Private Capital Association Anne Fossemalle – Global Head of Funds Investments, EBRD, and Gail Mwamba - the Managing Editor at Private Equity Africa among many other accomplished women in private capital. At DPI, our commitment to environmental responsibility runs deep. Recognizing that the complexities of climate change can be challenging to grasp, we’ve embraced a hands-on and engaging approach: the Climate Fresk team building activity. This interactive, collaborative workshop is designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of climate issues and inspire meaningful action. In this immersive 3-hour experience, our team worked together to create a "Climate Fresk” that visually maps out the causes and consequences of climate change using a set of illustrative cards. These cards, based on the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, offer a clear view of the climate emergency, backed by the most current data and insights. Thrilled to have contributed to a recent article by Alex Irwin-Hunt on the evolution of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Globally, there is a growing trend towards "new-generation zones," which are larger, more integrated with local economies, and less reliant on fiscal incentives. These zones offer significant untapped potential for economic spillovers and job quality improvement. Additionally, they present a unique opportunity to leverage SEZs to foster sustainable practices, aligning with the global shift towards environmentally responsible development. Just over a month ago, on October 9th and 10th, we closed our time in Europe with the INSEAD Student Impact Fund (ISIF) trek to London. It was inspiring experience and incredible way to wrap up before our break and campus exchange to start the final MBA period back in Singapore. 🙏 A huge thank you to Better Society Capital, Decarbonization Partners (BlackRock), Bridges Outcomes Partnerships, Dalberg, Development Partners International (DPI), and Wellers Impact for hosting us and sharing insights into your transformative initiatives. DPI would like to highlight the FT/MIGA Africa Sustainable Impact Awards. In a world where one hears constantly about devastating weather events caused by climate change and their impact on agriculture and an increasing number of people, and also about lack of prosperity and inclusivity in certain parts of Africa, these awards show how much can be changed by innovative entrepreneurs and management teams and point the way to solutions to these problems.
