About us
We are the leading global consultancy specialising in designing and developing social protection systems – one fundamental way that governments can guard people from poverty and vulnerability. Our team has delivered over 150 projects for governments, the UN and many other clients from Brazil to Vietnam since 2010. A British-Kenyan company, we began when Stephen Kidd and Richard Chirchir put their heads together with a group of like-minded development professionals to change the way countries address poverty, inequality and other key development challenges. Since then, our offices in London and Nairobi have grown considerably and we have recently expanded our work around the globe with our new office in Australia. As our knowledge and experience expands, our mission remains the same: to accelerate the realisation of social and economic rights for all through policy advice and services. What unites our diverse global team, from economists and policy experts to software developers, is our passion to change people’s lives for the better. We deliver on this mission by providing bespoke, evidence-based advice on social policy challenges and solutions that are sustainable and tailored to specific contexts, enabling governments to take informed decisions based on clear objectives and robust analysis.

Last day at #AAC2024! As the conference came to a close, we were glad to be able to hear Jesse Doyle of our Australian Aid-funded Partnerships for Social Protection (P4SP) speak about the need to invest in social protection in the Pacific Islands and Timor Leste, based on the research paper published earlier this year: https://lnkd.in/eGEUBQnr Stephen Kidd and Nicol Herbert also participated in the 3 Minute Aid Pitches, suggesting innovative aid ideas for international development. We’re happy to have met so many amazing people at this conference, and we hope to stay connected and work with you to achieve inclusive and sustainable development! ⌘ Elena Pak Grace Corcoran Lalchhanhimi Bungsut

Happening at the #AAC2024! This morning, we hosted a panel discussion on social protection's role in responding to the challenges of the climate crisis. We heard from Melanie Pill of the Lowy Institute, who spoke of the distinct threats climate change poses in the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia. Stephen Kidd, Development Pathways, then spoke about how universal, multi-tiered social security systems can provide the necessary support to those who need it most when disasters hit. We also heard from Ruth Honculada-Georget from FAO, who gave us a concrete example of a pilot programme from the Philippines that attempts to integrate anticipatory action and disaster risk reduction within the country's social protection plan. We are grateful to all the presenters, who left us with much to think about! A special thank you to Joanna Pickles from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, who seamlessly led the panel through the discussion. And another big thank you to ⌘ Elena Pak for organising this panel and making it happen. Watch this space for a more in-depth report from the presentation!

We were honored to be hosted at the residence of the British Ambassador to Jordan. During the engagement day, we convened to discuss the critical issue of integrating persons with disabilities into society and the workplace. As the "Shamil" team, we were privileged to engage in dialogue with His Excellency the Ambassador and the FCDO team. We also had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion featuring representatives from the International Labour Organization, Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), Humanity & inclusion (HI) Be positive, and The Washington Group approach was presented. We met with a diverse group of government officials, NGO representatives, and civil society organizations. These interactions provided invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing persons with disabilities in Jordan. ✴️ Dr. Mohannad Alazzah, SG of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, shared his inspiring story.
