Very interesting overview from the Federal Discrimination Agency in Germany on the risks of discrimination through the use of algorithms. Report does a nice job of differentiating between types of algorithms and context. Most importantly, it outlines the challenges to existing EU directives on the application of AI algorithms and societal / discrimination impacts. It is clear that the legislation will need updating in the face of new data and AI solutions. It is a very long report, however, two main points stick out for me: 💡 With regard to societal risks, technical improvements to algorithms or data sets are of no help 💡 Instead, it is for societal considerations and decisions to determine the significance of societal values and objectives as well as the desired or undesired practices of differentiation, in order to avoid societal risks In short, technology determinism (i.e the idea that you can fix algorithmic bias with more technology) is not the way forward. #AI #Data #DigitalTransformation #Algorithms #AlgorithmicBias #Legislation #EU #EuropeanUnion #EUDirectives #Regulation #Discrimination #DataAnalytics https://lnkd.in/eYYezybE
