Over the festive season, I noticed a lot of Facebook Challenges being advertised—I spotted over 20 in my news feed! 🎅🎄
It’s incredible to see charities embracing this strategy to engage supporters and drive fundraising. Facebook Challenges are a powerful tool for creating communities and raising vital funds online.
If you're planning to run a Facebook Challenge in 2025, here are my 5 top tips for success:
1️⃣ Choose the right challenge: Pick something simple, engaging, and easy for supporters to participate in. Think walk/run goals, fitness goals, or sporting activities.
2️⃣ Think beyond Facebook: They might still be known as Facebook challenges but you don't just need to use Facebook to acquire and engage supporters. Consider incorporating other social channels and 3rd party fundraising platforms.
3️⃣ Optimise your ads: Use attention-grabbing visuals, clear CTAs, showcase incentives and utilise strong hooks to attract participants.
4️⃣ Focus on the supporter journey: Engage participants from sign-up to completion, offering encouragement and celebrating their efforts.
5️⃣ Track performance and learn: Use data to refine and improve your approach for future challenges.

Digital marketing for non-profits often feels like a process of trial and error - 'throw it out there, and see what happens.' It can be frustrating, especially when the results don't meet your expectations.
That's why I was so grateful for the opportunity to take the Meta Ads Mastery for Fundraisers course through the Digital Fundraising Academy led by the exceptionally skilled Carla McLuskie. Carla really knows her stuff, and I walked away with practical tips I'll be using again and again.
Whether you're already running ads or have never even seen Ads Manager, this is a great course and you'll learn far more than you expect.
(Oh, and if you're a company looking for funding opportunities that show practical impact, consider funding training like this. Many of us working in non-profits are self-taught, but courses like this are invaluable to us.)
A couple of months ago, I began a course with Digital Fundraising Academy on Meta Ads Mastery for Fundraisers. Through this course, I learned how to put ads together for Facebook and Instagram, the best content to put forward and the most eye catching style of copy to use.
Our Christmas Jumper Day ad campaign was very successful, despite the fact that I appeared as an elf in most ads! We gained huge engagement and had
lots of sign ups to our fundraiser.

This week has been all about success with Digital Fundraising for the incredible organisations I work with. Here's the highlights 👀
✨ Delivered a Digital Fundraising workshop for Media Trust, helping their participants create effective Digital Fundraising campaigns and strategies.
✨ Delivered a session on Social Fundraising with Digital Fundraising Academy member Angela Massey at the South West Fundraisers Forum, Fundraising on the Margins Conference — such an important and inspiring event to be part of.
✨ Supported participants from our very own Meta Ads course as many of them launched their End-of-Year campaigns—it’s been amazing to see their hard work come to life! We are also super excited to see such promising early results.
✨ Finally we kicked off our Instagram Accelerator Program, a fantastic start to helping teams elevate their Instagram Challenge Fundraising game.
But the momentum doesn’t stop here. 🚀
