Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories
Oral glucose tolerance home-testing services for the detection of diabetes.
About us
50% of adults living with diabetes remain undiagnosed. Given the significant population health implications of missed or delayed detection, an immediate step-change is required in how we test for diabetes. Digostics offers the world's first and only alternative to in-clinic oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) by enabling this crucial diabetes test to be performed at home. Simplified testing. Increased patient throughput. Better outcomes.

🏡 World-first at-home test delivers more accurate gestational diabetes diagnoses A new at-home oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) analyses the blood sugar tests immediately, with results instantly shared with the requesting antenatal care team for diagnosis and clinical review. This overcomes the problems with sample processing and delayed testing carried out in hospital or community-based. Using standard NHS sample processing procedures, 9% of women in the study were diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The researchers found that when blood was processed more quickly, 22% of women in the study were found to have gestational diabetes, a difference of 13%. Without faster sample processing, more than half the women found to have gestational diabetes would have gone undiagnosed. 💬 James Jackson, founder and CEO of Digostics, said: “Professor Meek’s research definitively shows that in the UK’s standard OGTT testing is failing to diagnose more than 50 per cent of women who have gestational diabetes during pregnancy. “Without a diagnosis, the risks of gestational diabetes cannot be mitigated and mothers and babies are being left at risk of serious, lifelong, and life-threatening health complications." Research published in Diabetic Medicine reveals that over 50% of gestational diabetes cases are missed due to delays in processing OGTT samples within the in-clinic workflow. Timely sample processing is essential to ensure accurate diagnosis, and to prevent serious health risks for both mothers and babies. Yet another milestone for Digostics as GTT@home has been chosen as a trust by Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust. Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust (DGT) is offering GTT@home, an innovative, home-based diabetes screening service, to improve access to gestational diabetes testing for pregnant women. This initiative addresses key barriers faced by expectant mothers, such as travel, childcare, and time off work, that can make in-clinic testing difficult. This helps to ensure that every woman at risk of gestational diabetes receives timely, essential care. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects up to 20% of pregnancies in the UK, and early detection is vital in preventing complications at birth, ill-health in newborns, and long-term health risks for both mother and child. Traditionally, the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) requires several hours in the hospital, often early in the morning while fasting. With GTT@home, women can complete this vital screening from the comfort of their own homes, without the logistical challenges. "Our mission is to make use of digital health innovation to make it easier for everyone to get the care they need, especially those who are already disadvantaged when it comes to accessing healthcare.” said Valerie Elderkin, Interim Head of Midwifery, at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. "By adopting home-based diabetes screening, we’re addressing health inequalities and demonstrating our commitment to accessible and inclusive care."

On World Diabetes Day, we want to highlight the importance of effective diagnostics for gestational diabetes (GDM). Accurate and timely diagnosis of GDM is essential to identifying risk and supporting better outcomes for both mother and child. As we continue to innovate and improve diagnostics, we can help reduce long-term health risks, such as Type 2 diabetes, through earlier detection and proactive management. #WorldDiabetesDay #GTTathome #GestationalDiabetes #DiabetesAwareness #Innovation #HealthTech
