Growing recognition of the need for Healthier Buildings Yesterday the BBC covered the issue of mould that many are experiencing in their homes, with last night’s Panorama looking at the responsibilities and options for landlords and tenants tackling this problem. This topic isn’t new, and Xpelair discussed last week how it stands with @BEAMA in advocating for the inclusion of indoor air quality (IAQ) metrics in Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) as a way to address it. Alongside other policy this reform is essential for promoting environments that support occupant health and comfort. Our range of ventilation solutions is designed to meet the evolving standards that such reforms would establish and we are eager to help our customers avoid and resolve situations like those covered in the programme. Benefits of IAQ-Focused EPCs: - Encourage the implementation of effective ventilation systems. - Provide transparency on indoor environmental quality for property stakeholders. - Support national health objectives by reducing exposure to indoor pollutants. Explore our commitment to improving IAQ: https://lnkd.in/ezDGKJQW #HealthyBuildings #EPCReform #VentilationSolutions #Xpelair #BEAMA #IAQ

Xpelair by Dimplex - Enhancing Indoor Air Quality through EPC Reform We recognise the critical role of indoor air quality (IAQ) in ensuring healthy living environments. The BEAMA EPC Reform Position Paper advocates for integrating IAQ assessments into Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) - a move we fully support. By prioritising IAQ in EPCs, we can promote healthier homes and workplaces across the UK. Consideration of IAQ at this level will help to reduce levels of carbon dioxide, humidity, and harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). - Poor IAQ contributes to significant health issues, including respiratory problems. - People each produce about 2.5 kg of water and 1 kg of carbon dioxide per day, requiring at least 0.5 air changes per day in living rooms to prevent build-up (more in kitchens and bathrooms). - Excessive humidity can lead to condensation on cold walls and mould growth, while high carbon dioxide levels can lead to lethargy, headaches, shortness of breath and worse. Currently neither RdSAP (Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure) or HEM (Home Energy Model, due to replace SAP in 2026) include IAQ metrics, despite calculating ventilation rates in enough detail to estimate humidity and other health and wellbeing markers. Focusing exclusively on energy savings, EPCs (and their HEM driven replacement) risk encouraging homes to become more airtight to the detriment of healthy air quality. Dimplex UK reposted this
This week we were back in #Westmisnter to talk to Deirdre Costigan, MP for Ealing Southall, and Tom Hayes MP for Bournemouth East, about distributed heat batteries such as Dimplex Quantum and how they can help to fight fuel poverty whilst enabling a clean energy system. Conor Sugrue, Eva Jacques and John Hinsley explained the scale of the opportunity presented by High Heat Retention Storage Heaters (HHRSH): 1.1 million UK homes currently use direct electric/portable heating - they could save nearly 50% on their heating bills by upgrading to HHRSH. 1.4 million UK homes currently use storage heating and 900,000 of these use old style units which could save nearly 30% on bills by upgrading. 2.5 million homes with HHRSH could provide 8 GW of peak reduction relative to direct electric heating, using existing, proven technology. This is half of the flexibility National Energy System Operator propose for a clean UK energy system, enabling the mass adoption of heat pumps. Without policy and funding support the proportion of storage heaters installed will continue to fall, risking increasing the peak demands as heating is electrified. #AccelerateElectrification #WarmHomesPlan #BoilerUpgradeScheme #VATrelief #ElectrificationOfHeat #ThermalStorage #HeatBattery
