We had the privilege of attending the Press Night for The Little Mermaid at the Bristol Old Vic. This bold re-imagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale by Sonali Bhattacharyya and Miranda Cromwell was nothing short of breathtaking. With its inclusive approach and environmental focus, the production effortlessly celebrated cultural diversity while raising awareness about the impact of human activity and financial greed on our oceans. The story reminds us that no one is too small to make a difference. We were mesmerised by Holly Downey’s aerialist artistry, adding a spectacular visual element to the magical underwater world. We’d like to give a massive shout-out to Ruth Ramsay, the Costume Supervisor for The Little Mermaid! Ruth is one of our talented DAN artists, known for her incredible work as the Flag Up Your Identity Producer for #DIASPORA! 2024. She continues to inspire with her creativity and dedication to fostering community engagement. If you’re looking for a festive, thought-provoking show that combines magic, heart, and a timely message, we can’t recommend The Little Mermaid enough. 🎭 📅 Don’t miss out! Catch this captivating production at Bristol Old Vic this Christmas. As an Associate Company at Bristol Old Vic! This partnership enables us to further develop as an organisation, benefiting from their expertise and mentorship. If you’re a diverse theatre maker or want to explore ways to get involved with Bristol Old Vic, email us at hello@diverseartistsnetwork.com. The sun shone. The people came. The past 12 months delivering in-person and online meet-ups has been a lesson in trust. That providing space for transracial adoptee and fostered adults to come together and connect, is enough. The work is to remain consistent and show-up. So, I'm thrilled and thankful that DAWTA's Nature Trail facilitated by Leanne Anyinsah at Soultrail Wellbeing was such a success. 8 people came, with another 5 expressing interest. We learnt about how to treat stings (correctly), which red berries we can and can't eat (always check!!), we even hugged a few trees, lol. But most importantly, a non-pressured space was created to share lived experiences, safely. Thank you Quartet Community Foundation Nilaari Agency Black South West Network Diverse Artists Network for your support, funding coaching and mentorship, in 2024. Looking forward to continuing our journey in 2025. And thanks to the DAWTA group, that continues to grow in number.... The sun shone. You came. 😋 Last Sunday, we celebrated the year-end with a delightful Japanese meal at Lonely Mouth, embracing the spirit of kuchisabishii—eating for a “lonely mouth.” It was a warm, shared experience, though we missed those unable to join us. A perfect way to close the year! 👋 We're now signing off until the New Year! We'll be Out Of Office until the 6th January*. We apologise in advance if this causes any inconveniences! If you’re inquiring about the Manager or Board position, please email Deasy (deasy@diverseartistsnetwork.com) or Vandna (Vandna@diverseartistsnetwork.com). Please make sure to include “DAN Company Manager Application” or “DAN Board Application” in your subject line. 👉You can find the links in our profile if you have any events or opportunities you'd like us to share with our network. We wish you a restful time over this holiday period 😊 *However you can expect some scheduled content from us! #CelebratingCulture #FamilyFun #Artists #Opportunities #Creativity #Performances #EventsAndNetworking #Bristol #Southwest #GlobalMajority

Our very own J.O. Neill was invited to be a guest lecturer at Bath Spa University the other week, for the Global Communications Strategies module of their Media Communications course. Students of this module are introduced to concepts like constructions of whiteness and race, national identity, hybridity and diaspora, and guest lecturers share their research or arts/ cultural practice on such topics. Dialing in from Accra, Ghana, where she will be based until March, Jess did a presentation about the work of the Diverse Artists Network, including the very first #DIASPORA!, and why diversity and representation matter. Citing a talk by Riz Ahmed from 2017, which is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it, Jess spoke to the students about how Britain's colonial past (and other things) has resulted in diversity in our streets, making our country a truly global culture, which is something to be proud of and celebrate. 🔗 Be the first to receive our developments by signing up to our newsletter via https://lnkd.in/dPUHcFCh #CelebratingCulture #FamilyFun #Artists #Opportunities #Creativity #Performances #EventsAndNetworking #Bristol #Southwest #GlobalMajority

We invited Julz Davis, Disruptor-In-Chief of Curiosity UnLtd, to use the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery to spotlight modern slavery's impact, with over 50 million victims worldwide. Highlighting industries’ complicity and weak laws, Julz advocates for collective action—lobbying MPs, raising awareness, and supporting accountability—to combat exploitation and drive meaningful social change.
