The start of an exciting journey
And so our evolution continues at Sirdar, with the introduction of our first sustainable yarn family, Loveful. The new ranges represent our wish to offer a more environmentally conscious knit & crochet experience, whilst continuing to offer the same great value for money as our core ranges. The initial ranges focus on waste production fibres, spun into beautiful tweed and plain yarns, they come with recycled paper ball-bands and the patterns are printed on carbon capture assured paper. All this great news for the environment, but never compromising on quality. We have even more exciting innovations in development for 2025, but first we wanted to give our great new ranges and designs a shout out. #loveful #knitting #sustainable #conscious #yarn #crafting #crochet #lovefulnotlandfill

Great patterns transform the hand-knitting experience giving the maker a pleasurable mindful experience. We think amazing pattern writing is a superpower built on 5 key skills. If you think you have those and you’d like to be a part of the growing freelance pattern writing team at Rowan and Sirdar then please read on… 1) Advanced Technical Knowledge First and foremost exceptional pattern writers have a deep and thorough understanding of different knitting techniques which they can break down into logical steps. From basic stitches to intricate designs, they must have mastered a range of knitting methods such as stranded colourwork, lace, cables, and textured stitches. They can then describe these in consistent and clear terminology. 2)Clear Communication Pattern writers must be skilled communicators. The ability to translate complex techniques into clear, concise, and easily understandable instructions is vital. This includes using visual elements, such as charts and diagrams to support knitters of all skill levels. 3) Good mathematical skills Mathematical skills ensure that instructions for yarn amounts, gauge, stitch counts, shaping, and sizing are precise and accurate. Pattern writers must be able to accurately grade patterns to enable knitters to create well-fitting garments for all sizes. 4) Organisation and Structure A well-organised pattern flows and is easy to follow. Knitters need to find the next instruction easily as they glance away from their work. 5) Empathy and User Experience Understanding the experience of knitting is central to the process of pattern development. Good writers anticipate the needs, preferences and potential problems of their target audience and offer customisable options or solutions when possible. Great pattern writers foster a sense of belonging among knitters, their patterns are not just a set of instructions, but a connection to a like-minded community. Do you have these skills and would like to be a part of the growing freelance pattern writing team at the DMC Group please contact a.hull@dmc.com with a copy of your CV and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience.

In an article today in the Guardian, the focus is upon a recent survey about the role of crafts in well-being. It should come as no surprise that the impact is materially good. At the DMC Group this is a core part of our purpose, yet the article does not even fully encompass the benefits of crafting. Over the next weeks and months we will further dive into this topic. https://lnkd.in/eCuVDUxc
